October 2013 Openings

When it comes to the latest restaurants, bars, hotels and clubs opening London never fails to impress and this October is no different. We're welcoming a long term pop up to Covent Garden, getting excited about a new luxury hotel in Holborn, are heading east for ramen and back west again for burgers. With brand new clubs opening in Notting Hill and several restaurant groups adding a second, third or even fourth venue to their collection, October is set to be a great month for new beginnings, here is a selection of some of London's latest openings:

PipsDish

Having started off in an old garage in Islington before moving to Hoxton, PipsDish is settling in Covent Garden with the arrival of its new restaurant. The whole restaurant has a relaxed, ad hoc feel, from the homely interior, to the no menu and no booking concept, although you can book for  lazy Saturday breakfasts and  long Sunday lunches. Hoi Polloi

The effortlessly cool American hotel group, Ace Hotels, have crossed the pond to set up their first hotel in Europe on Shoreditch High street and with it comes Hoi Polloi, the hotel’s restaurant. Dubbed a modernist brasserie, and accessible through the in house flower shop, Hattie’s Fox,  the restaurant will be serving up dishes such as ricotta pancakes, pork cheek and raspberry and fig sorbet. Honest Burgers

The first of the burger joints opening this month, is Honest Burger. Adding another restaurant to the three current Honest Burgers, the group heads west as the fourth one will call Portobello Road home. Serving up the mouth-wateringly good honest burgers, chicken burgers, fritters and those chips with rosemary salt! Opens 5th October www.honestburgers.co.uk

Drakes Tabanco

Some sherry history for you: in the 16th century Sir Frances Drake set sail to Spain to attack the Spanish Armada, on his return to Britain he brought with him 3000 barrels of sherry and now in the 21st a sherry tabanco typical of those in Jerez and named after Drake is coming to Fitzrovia. Alongside the sherry which is poured straight from the barrel there will also be a selection of wines and an Andalusian inspired menu. Opens 7th October www.drakestabanco.com

Vinoteca

Joining the others to become the fourth in the group is the newest Vinoteca on Devonshire Road in Chiswick. With an open plan kitchen and seats for 50 diners, guests will be able to enjoy a menu which is based on modern British cuisine with influences from Italy, Spain and France. All the wines will be available online and to takeaway and with 270 wines on the list you  better get learning your grape varieties. Opens 7th October www.vinoteca.co.uk

Merchants Tavern

Angela Hartnett, Neil Borthwick, Dom Lake, and Patrick Clayton- Malone, have collaborated to create new restaurant Merchants Tavern. Housed within a former apothecary in a Victorian warehouse in Shoreditch, the restaurant will be serving a small menu inspired by Spanish, Italian and French cuisine, think salt cod cream and pickled fennel and toast. One Canada Square

One Canda Square, Canary Wharf is welcoming a new restaurant this month, as the ETM group open the simply named One Canada Square on the ground floor of the huge office building. With a 30 cover bar and a 100 cover restaurant with a mezzanine floor, the restaurant will be open throughout the week but also for indulgent brunches on Saturday.  Opens 14th October www.onecanadasquarerestaurant.com

Olympic Studios

This is when we wish walls could talk: the infamous recording studios where U2, The Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix have played is back under a new guise as it becomes a cinema, restaurant and private member’s club. With a seasonal British menu the restaurant is over seen by John Laycock formerly of Soho House Group whilst the two luxury cinemas will seat between them 190 and the private member’s club will be spread across the three floors. Rosewood London

The ultra luxury hotel group is coming to London, transforming a grade II listed Edwardian building in High Holborn into a sleek, sophisticated hotel. With 242 bedrooms, 44 suites, 11 events spaces including a ball room, spa and a courtyard reminiscent of an Italian Renaissance Palazzo the hotel and will be a blend of English heritage and modern luxury, firmly raising the bar! Shimmy

The guys behind LoveBrunch and the E.T.A parties are bringing a new late night club to Notting Hill on the former site of cherryjam. Shimmy is encouraging playfulness and eccentricity with its Victorian, wonderland feel. Staff will don Gatsby-esque attire. Candles in alcoves will bring the intimacy, the scrabble tiled bar, Magic Far Away Tree bring the wonderland and the cheeky peep holes and photo booths brings the playfulness. Opens 17th October Porchester Road, Notting Hill

Pied Nu

This is the next venture from David Moore the restaurateur behind L’Autre Pied and Pied à Terre. Taking over a site on Blandford Street is Pied Nu, is a long term pop up which is going to be stripping cuisine back and keeping it simple with raw ingredients and a small but perfectly formed menu. Open early October  19 Blandford Street, Marylebone

Tonkotsu East

The Soho ramen joint, is being joined by a sibling restaurant and from the name you’ve guessed it, over in the East. Setting up shop in Hackney arches on Kingsland Road, the second Tonkotsu will be serving up those infamous Octopus pancakes that Soho diners have been feasting on, Hackney dwellers get queuing!
