If you’re following the herd, looking for somewhere to graze or simply a place to chew the cud, you’re going to need each of your six stomachs to make the most out of Orange Buffalo as it arrives at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen.
Orange Buffalo is the classic food-truck to riches story, set up by a couple of guys after a roadtrip. Nick White and Mike So were roadtripping through the USA and found themselves falling in love with the country’s dive bars and the unfussy style of bar food. New York’s buffalo wings took their imagination and they decided to bring this deep fried delacies back to London.
Launching in 2012 in a truck at Shoreditch’s Truman Brewery, things took off immediately with chicken wing enthusiasts flocking to the East London destination. Collecting armfuls of awards and accolades along the way, they’ve recreated the authentic taste of the US with their wings and sauces which explains why Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen were so keen for them to do a residency.
Swapping their truck for something a bit less outdoorsy they’ll be at the East London venue serving up wings with their range of six sauces in varying degrees of spicy. At the bottom end of the scale is the guys’ original tangy sauce made with Dutch chillies. Next up Woof Woof, made with Scotch Bonnets, Dutch chillies and a hint of Naga or take a chance with the notorious ‘Snake-In a basket’ – a sort of Russian Roulette of Original or Woof Woof wings including one loaded with a Viper – their spiciest sauce made with scotch bonnets, naga and chilli extract that is so hot that it needs to be served with an ‘anti-venom’ (Mini Milk ice cream) to cool you down after.
All the wings will be orderable with either curly fries, onion rings or deep-fried pickles, as ever, and especially for their residency they’ve added The Bloody Veggie burger made with roasted beetroot, chestnut mushroom, brown rice, adzuki beans & almond patty, Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, blue cheese dressing and pickle, as well as an array of other juicy sandwiches.
