There’s a new chai and coffee house, Pamban, opening in Camden and they’re going to be giving away free chai.
Yep, Pamban which opens on Monday 10th July, will be celebrating their opening by giving anyone who heads in there and says, ‘chai there’ free chai. Well chai there to you too.
Named after the island that sits between Indian and Sri Lanka, Pamban will serve a menu of chai and coffee drinks that brings together the cultures and tastes of Sri Lanka and India. Chai will be brewed in traditional clay cups, you can choose between the house chai which is original masala or more unique flavours such as rose and lavender. Over at the espresso counter they’ll be making the likes of a red cappuccino, which uses rooibos tea shots and is served with Sri Lankan cinnamon and honey and kulfi affogato – an Asian take on the Italian classic.
Feast on Bun Maska – a sweet bread bun served with tropical jams and jaggery (unrefined sugar made from kitul palm trees); Lamprais – a Dutch-influenced Sri Lankan dish consisting of banana leaf-steamed, spiced rice topped with slow-cooked curry, and Pamban rolls, deep-fried rolled pancakes filled with lamb, chicken or vegetables.
You can also buy Sri Lankan green tea and chai equipment including the handmade chai clay cups… just remember to go and say chai there….
