It’s been an unspeakably long time coming but then again, Jason’s been rather a busy boy. However, reservation lines for his debut London eaterie Pollen Street Social are due to open (and, we anticipate, to ring off the hook) on 31 March, three weeks before the venue launches on 18 April.
Ramsay protégé, Atherton, left Maze restaurant in May 2010 and we can’t wait to see what he can do left to his own devices. He describes the Pollen Street Social menu as “having one foot in the past and the other in the future” – meaning that where classical techniques underpin his creativity, his dishes are also influenced by time working in some of the most innovative kitchens of the world.
The à la carte menu focussing on high quality seasonal ingredients will be divided into four sections: hot, cold, meat and fish and highlights will include dishes such as Dover sole with the garnish of Escoffier 1910 and Ginger pig pork chop, braised pork neck with beetroot, hops, seeds and grains in a beer sauce.
The main dining room will seat 60 and an additional focus will be the bar area: surrounded by comfy banquettes and filled with eclectic furniture and art, it aims to be a place where guests can eat as well as just enjoy a drink. And then downstairs will house the private dining room completely encased within the venue’s wine cellar.
However, what we’re really excited about is Jason’s dessert bar where guest will be able to decamp after dinner or simply stop by for a sweet treat and a coffee while watching chefs creating Strawberry and tomato gazpacho with vanilla, black olive sorbet and sweet bread or the soon-to-be famous Tiramisu Social before their very eyes.
