So for all of us who have been salivating since we spied the Polpo hoardings on Notting Hill Gate, the time is nigh. Polpo Notting Hill is soft launching this weekend. Tomorrow to be precise. Yup, the 120 cover restaurant and bar will be open for both lunch and dinner and better still there will be a preview discount of 50% on food.
Polpo aficionados will, no doubt, be aware that the Venetian bacaro first broke onto the capital’s dining scene in Soho in 2009 followed up branches in Covent Garden’s Maiden Lane and Smithfield’s Cowcross Street. But we didn’t need to tell you that…
Reservation lines are now open taking lunch bookings on both days but if you don’t get lucky, dinner is walk-in, though something tells us that you may have to be prepared for a bit of a queue. A small price to pay though for Russell Norman and Richard Beatty’s delish line-up of cicheti – Arancini anyone? Yes we thought so – or even Pizzette Bianca, Octapus and potato salad, Spicy pork and fennel meatballs, Fritto misto and Zucchini with parmesan and basil. And as for that famous Flourless orange and almond cake dessert – well, go figure.
We suggest you whet your appetite (just in case it needs whetting but it probably won’t) with a Campari Spritz or Negroni Sbagliato, the sparkling summer sister of the classic pour which switches up Beefeater gin for Prosecco.
