Over the past six months Will Lander (co-owner of The Quality Chop House) and Daniel Morgenthau (ex -10 Greek Street) have been working to transform a former clothes show-room on Portland Street into a restaurant, aptly named Portland, which will be opening in January.

The all-day restaurant will be light and airy (although this doesn’t mean minimalist!) and will be serving breakfast, lunch and supper with everything in between. Merlin Labron – Johnson will head up the kitchen having recently returned from two years as a sous-chef at In De Wulf in Belgium. His aim is to create accessible, inexpensive dishes which rather than being heavy are light but still full of robust flavour.

Dishes are said to include crown pumpkin gnocchi with chestnut and brown butter, fish with baked onion and cider and whole roasted cauliflower, lemon and thyme. On the pudding menu you can find the likes of Chocolate bar ‘pur jivara’, peanut butter praline and Dame Blanche. The 45 strong wine list are hand –picked and will change monthly depending on the weather, menu and guest’s favourites, it will also feature one of London’s most extensive ‘Fine Wines By The Glass’ list – so we’re going to be waving goodbye to a sober January.
