Primavera 2010

By | 11th March 2010

With Fashion Week but a memory, we turn to Primavera 2010 offerings with a more gastronomic bent. From Italy’s fashion capital of Milan comes the Alvaro Group’s Pollen nestled in Vogue House territory just behind Hanover Square and Cielo on New Burlington Street does it for the Sardinian contingent.

At only 29, slick Italian entrepreneur Livio Bisterzo is still a spring chicken but the founder of ultra fashionable Maddox Club and men's skincare range Kyoku, is certainly not one to let the grass grow under his feet.

Recently named one of the most influential Londoners by the Evening Standard for his contribution to the capital’s nightlife scene, his sophisticated Pollen is destined to attract a heady mix of London’s A-List and the international jet-set alike.

Classical meets Art Deco, the understated interiors will blend seamlessly with the courteous old school service that we’ve come to expect from Harry’s Bar alumnus, general manager, Eugenio Rolfo.

Stefano Stecca, formerly of Brunello at the Baglioni Hotel, is heading up the kitchen and has devised a menu of seasonal Northern Italian dishes with an emphasis on the light and healthy plus of course those classic Risotto dishes, Veal Milanese and Homemade Tagliatelle with Black Truffle & Porcini Mushrooms.

And then of course there’s Cielo restaurant and late night lounge bar, open til 4am, which will boast a retractable glass roof above the mezzanine bar and also an onsite art gallery for more culturally inclined night owls. Designed by Rossella Stina, interiors will be contemporary and elegant – all chandeliers, cream leather banquettes and Phillipe Stark chairs.

Head chef, Monserrato Marini, hails from the island of Sardinia and the simple Italian menu is influenced by this native cuisine. Dishes will include Culatello di Zibello with Pear & Acacia Honey; Grilled Beef Carpaccio with Balsamic & Rosemary; Fried Baby Squid, Zucchini & White Bait; Fillet of Lamb in Pancetta Stuffed with Rosemary & Black Truffles and, of course, his infamous Stecche di Bomboloni.

With only an exclusive 40 covers we predict a serious wait-list for dinner reservations! Fortunately though, The Cuckoo Club’s Andreas Jansson, will be responsible for the bar’s eclectic cocktail list so even if you can’t get a table until August, you can console yourselves with balmy summer evenings under the Mayfair stars.
