We've done supper clubs, we've scoped out The Box and, Coachella notwithstanding, it's a long ole wait until the start of the festival season. So it's a good job that Proud Group is taking over the former Matter Club in the O2 then isn't it!
Following a sell-out one-off party over New Year's Eve to test the waters (a resounding success) things have moved pretty sharpish and Proud2 (what else could you call it?) is set to launch on 3 March with an opening party packed with a stellar line up of live acts and DJ sets from The Mystery Jets, The Bees, Friendly Fires, Horse Meat Disco, Sara Cox, Zane Lowe, Mr Hudson, Bloc Party, Paloma Faith, Danny Rampling and many more.
Expect some real experience clubbing with grand scale circus themed productions which will include headline acts, fire breathers, trapeze artists, snake charmers, aerialists and performance artists. The eponymous Alex Proud got the idea on a trip to Vegas and vowed to recreate the experience in London.
So it was out with the former stark industrial interior and in with modernist chandeliers, studded brass bars and geometric painted walls. The venue's second floor will be home to the 'Leopard Lounge' featuring gold Art Deco inspired leopard sculptures on a backdrop of turquoise marbling – all re-imagined by Alex's wife, Danielle Proud's boutique design firm, House Proud.
But before you start moaning about being stuck in no man's land (well technically Greenwich) at 3am fear not, Proud will be running its own transport system til 6am in the shape of a menagerie of Routemaster buses to key central London destinations and a fleet of 150 black cabs if you're not feeling sociable.
Taking on the venue is a brave decision in the current climate but Proud Group's marriage of art, music and the performance art of the supperclub makes it a great candidate for the job.
Proud2 opens 3rd March 2011.
