Mid March sees the opening of Q Grill BBQ restaurant and bar in Camden. Owned by Des McDonald, who recently opened Fish & Chip Shop in Islington, the concept is ‘Memphis, Tennessee meets ‘farm- to-grill’, meets Camden Town. Phil Eagle (Hix and Le Caprice) heads up the kitchen.
Using traditional barbeque methods, Q Grill will serve raw, grilled and smoked favourites. Starters include Q fritters, Moonshine battered shrimp, Hickory Chickory salad with blue cheese & crispy bacon and Burnt-end meat balls. Choose Queen scallop ceviche, salmon caviar & finger lime, Blackened tiger shrimp and Citrus sea bass served with spiced crispy taco from the Raw Bar or Pecan wood roasted chicken, Josper grilled rib eye steak and the Q Grill burger from the grill. Smoked varieties include juicy pulled pork sandwiches, and St Louis tender cut ribs and Kielbasa hotdogs with sweet mustard relish and smoked chilli sauce.
Classic American sides feature Seasoned fries, Mac and cheese, Q Grill baked beans, House slaw and Scrumpy fried onion rings and sweet treats include Root beer and Coke floats, Banoffee cheesecake, Salted caramel & peanut butter puddings and Louisville lemonade jello. Drink US bourbons and whiskeys, John The Fisherman (Julian Temperley Brandy mixed with Aperol and a dash of elderflower) or T.I.K.I (Kraken Rum shaken with house made falernum, lime, pineapple and raspberry) cocktails.
Designed by Alexander Waterworth Interiors (Kerbisher & Malt), the 120 cover restaurant with its open kitchen is all rough timbers, warm lighting, neon signage, booth seating and high stools. Old timber front fridges have been transformed into waiter stations and back bars and the bathrooms are inspired by Deep South barn interiors.
