Selfridges’ New Rooftop Restaurant

Autumn is just a season of comfort really isn’t it? It’s not so cold that you don’t want to leave the house, the trees are glowing orange rather than being barren and spindly, you are excited about eating warming stews rather than force feeding yourself another mince pie. It’s just a nice, snug time.

And tomorrow sees the opening of Des McDonald’s latest rooftop restaurant and bar at Selfridges, Forest Restaurant and Cabin Bar which is inspired by autumnal woodland and the best indulgent comfort food.

Chris Dargavel will heading up the kitchen with the motto – foraging and foresting to fork. Dishes will include Foxes Farm pumpkin and goat’s cheese tart, juniper gin cured salmon served with pickled cucumber and heartier dishes such as duck shepherd’s pie with autumn squash and baked game meatballs with vegetable orzo.  Puddings include a rose custard tart, treacle sponge with a whisky anglaise and a chocolate forest, because you know to get your thermal layer aka your autumn chub on.

Step outside onto the terrace and you’ll find The Cabin Bar complete with blankets to wrap up in. Joining the autumn essentials of cider and mulled wine will be choctails to warm your bones on chilly nights. We’ve got our eye on the Gingerbread Choctail – gingerbread liqueur, rum and hot chocolate. Although the Chestnut Choctail also sounds pretty good too, made with Crème de Chataigne, white chocolate liqueur and hot chocolate and how about the Spiced Banana Choctail? Ok you know what, we’re just going to have to drink all of them.

Cocktails include Smokey & Sour – a blend of Black Label, rosemary, lemon juice, maple syrup, La Phroag and Burlesque Bitters, Truffle Martini – an innovative mix of Gin, vermouth and truffle oil and Fancy Nogg – a warming mix of Brandy, Frangelico, milk, cream, honey, hazelnut and nutmeg. 

We’re envisaging doing our Christmas shopping Selfridges and then heading upstairs for a well-deserved choctail – you’ve got to treat yourself after all.
