September Social Calendar

So we come to September, that month where it isn’t quite summer any more but it’s still too warm to don the cashmere and declare we are in autumn. Today we look at some our favourite events happening in London this September, we will be dashing about London Fashion Week, admiring stylish men at the GQ awards, celebrating birthdays at Dukebox and eating our way to Mozambique and back in a night…one busy month.

GQ Men of the Year Awards

It’s the stuff dreams are made of: one of London’s most prestigious hotels filled with the likes of Damian Lewis, Chris Hemsworth and a whole host of Britain’s most stylish men. That’s right, it’s the return of the GQ awards and this year for their sixteenth awards they have teamed up with the iconic Hugo Boss, to recognise the achievements and talents of Britain’s greatest men.

British Street Food Awards

Britain is finally realising great food doesn’t just come in the form of Michelin stars and silver service and it certainly isn’t as fun as gorging yourself on homemade burgers with proper ketchup. September sees a whole weekend of celebrating the best of British street food, whether it is pizza from a quirky van, a milk float serving the best ice cream out there or macaroni cheese so good you’ll queue an hour in the cold, as we did, just to get your hands on some. It’s the sort of street revolution that we actually want.

Restaurant Bar and Design Awards

A restaurant can have great food and great service, but if the decors wrong, if the atmosphere is lost you might as well give up. Michelin star food isn’t so appealing in a gaudily lit room and caviar is cheapened with plastic, so it is time to give the guys behind the restaurants and bars who have got it right when it comes to design, a nod of recognition.

Boodles Boxing Ball

Black tie and boxing, it’s like peanut butter and jam, pepper and strawberries, bacon and maple syrup in theory it shouldn’t work, but in reality… oh hello. Diamonds and sweat, glamour and muscles, the biennial Boodles Boxing Ball is back. The Royals have given their seal of approval in previous years,  but the ball isn’t just about spotting London’s favourites it is also about a generous donation to charity, guilt free partying.

Dukebox’s First Birthday

Not that you need an excuse to go out on a Thursday, everyone knows it makes sense. But should you need a justification for being hung over on Friday then make it a birthday, you can’t miss those can you? No. So great news then that Dukebox is having its first birthday this month. Cocktails are a given, of course and canapés come courtesy of caterers Chilli Bees, excellent news!

Festivals, Fashion and Films

London Fashion Week

September is synonymous with two things, that dreaded going back to school feeling and London Fashion Week, good job we have all left school then because LFW has always been more our sort of thing. It’s the one week that we should all make a sartorial effort as the fashion hordes flock to the city in the search for next look. Who turns the most heads, who gets the most front row seats, who got it spot on and who misjudged the dress code and should just go home, it’s London’s most judgemental week.

The Blues Kitchen Explosion

Food, fashion and music the perfect ménage a trois, the sort we approve of. Head over to XOYO for a day of vintage and independent fashion and BBQ food on the roof terrace before an evening of DJ sets and performances from the likes of Kitty, Daisy and Lewis and Little Barrie. We say two is company and three is just more fun.

WhyNot Cinema at Broadway House

Following on from their success in August, WhyNot Cinema is back on the rooftop at Broadway House. With a different film shown every Sunday evening, this is a much better end to your weekend then sitting on your sofa with a takeaway. Hot dogs will be served before the film starts and you can tuck into skinny popcorn from Metcalfes throughout.  Seating comes in the form of bean bags donated by One Piece, but we say take your own extra blankets and pillows too, take a date and get cosy.  Get tickets here

Destination Mozambique

The guys at the Mile High Club are boarding for departure one last time and we are booking our flight for a culinary excursion to Mozambique and back, all without leaving London, clever eh? Arrive for cocktails in the departure lounge before boarding the ‘plane’ for seafood cooked over hot coals and doused in flavours you’ve probably never heard of, but definitely won’t forget. If past trips are anything to go by take a large group of noisy friends and forget first dates, these are loud raucous affairs.

Butler’s Wharf Black out

Throughout the Thames Festival, the D & D restaurants along the river which include Le Pont De La Tour and Butler’s Wharf Chophouse will be submerged in darkness as they switch off the electricity and say goodbye to light pollution. With a series of events taking place at the restaurants throughout the festival, the one not to be missed is the Blackout Banquet, a 40m table hosting 140 diners who will be working their way through a rotating menu all by candle light, dinner by the river has never been so magical.

Colonial Common at London Design Festival

Heard of American company Teroforma? We weren't too familiar either, but they are the guys behind the ingenious Whisky Stones drink cubes which are set to launch here in the UK and to celebrate they are hosting a whisky and  bourbon bar at the London Design Festival. Running 9 days the Colonial Common is setting up shop at the Old Shoreditch Station and invites guests to sip whisky, bourbon and experience food events from some of London’s finest food trucks and partners, including  Milk and Honey, Anna Mae’s, Social Eating House, Callooh Callay and Beard to Tail.
