Sewing should only be attempted by a professional, aka mum, unless, of course the sewing bit is only a front and it actually involves drinking cocktails. In which case, count us in. Yes a very warm welcome to the new martini bar downstairs at the 5cc Singer Tavern.
It may look like an east end boozer on the outside but the interior was originally conceived to house the HQ of the famous Singer Sewing Machine Company. The machines are long gone but there’s still some cool old school signage adorning the bare brick walls.
The cocktail menu features the likes of the Knock Out – East London Liquor Company Demerara rum, lime, strawberry and black pepper cordial with a soda top (knock out by name knock out by nature), the Loosie D’Ouro – Glen Moray Port Cask Curacao, Tio Pepe sherry, vanilla, chocolate and chilli bitters served with a Paul A. Young choccy truffle and the East End Old Fashioned – 10 Elijah Craig 12, lapsang souchong cordial, chilli and citrusy orange bitters.
Genuinely innovate and exciting without featuring any ridiculous ingredients which live at the back of the store cupboard for a reason (you know who you are)… Oh and there’s also a special martini menu with batch-produced gins from East London liquor Company and small bites like smoked mackerel pate and lamb croquettes to keep the wolf from the door. See you there!
