Launching in July, the exclusive Skate Almighty events will roll into London, Birmingham and Manchester, enabling up to 1000 people to enjoy summer’s coolest sport, free of charge.
Throughout the decades, music and fashion have influenced each other, think Madonna’s corsets, The Klaxons neon graphics and The Strokes skinny jeans and converse. Nokia has commissioned uber cool fashion duo Preen, to produce five pairs of skates to correspond with five popular music genres, pop, rock, hip hop, electronica and classic anthems. Each skate will be littered with iconic images, designs and fabrics that encapsulate each musical generation. Preen launched during London Fashion Week in 2001. Their design influence spans not only decades, but centuries, from early British Victoriana to ultra modern punk rock. Their hip and edgy designs have taken the fashion world by storm helping the duo achieve an unrivaled fan base.
Each of the Nokia Skate Almighty events will feature a DJ/band performance stage central to the roller disco, on which some of the world’s leading names will perform, including Hot Chip, Zero 7 and the legendary Norman Jay. Skaters will weave between giant glitter-ball trees and statues paying homage to the five different styles of music. The Nokia Skate Almighty rink will be open to children and families during the day.
Hosted in a spectacular rink created especially for the Nokia Skate Almighty roller disco, the London event will run across the 11th – 13th July, situated in the vibrant Thames-side South Bank area, before moving to Birmingham’s Centenary Square on the 18th – 20th July. The final Nokia Skate Almighty roller disco will visit Manchester on 25th – 27th July.
