When it comes to shopping, we’d be positively undressed without our favourite boutique stocking impossible to come by niche designers and providing a oasis of calm amidst the horrors of the high street. We don’t want to see the world and its granny wearing our new heels any more than we want to rub shoulders with the bridge and tunnel crew on a night out.
Just as Jane Shepherdson broke away from an over-exposed TopShop to work in the infinitely more elite environment of Whistles, Mike Filpi, formerly director of the Ignite Group behind such success stories as Eclipse and Cocoon, has launched the infinitely more select Bartique on Fulham Road. And with a nomination for Best Bar in the London Club & Bar Awards already under his belt, this new venue is swiftly becoming the ultimate destination for hipsters about town.
The stunning décor created by Mike’s hotshot interior designer wife, Lizzie, is reminiscent of the bar of an exclusive boutique hotel. Sumptuous scatter cushions are strewn over luxurious banquettes while low and super-flattering lighting casts a bewitching glow across chic leather clad tables delectable as your favourite handbag. The bar’s glass frontage is simply made for summer when it opens up onto Fulham Road’s aptly monikered ‘Beach’.
Happily, Bartique’s ‘small is beautiful’ vibe extends also to its prices. There are no £1000 cocktails here just delicately crafted blends by dedicated mixologists. We love the Bartique Breeze, a blend of pear cognac, apple liqueur, fresh lemon, cloudy apple and lychee juice crowned with amaretto. Food is Italian style cuisine and fabulous Spanish Tapas – bite-sized but perfectly formed with fresh sushi and sashimi platters taking centre stage.
The perfect venue in which to kick back in style, a civilised 1am license (which can be extended to 2am for private parties) ensures Bartique’s discerning clientele a stress free evening in a relaxed yet glamorous setting.
