The Smokehouse has just opened in Islington from Scott Hunter and Maria Larsen, the couple behind The Princess of Shoreditch, The Lady Ottoline and The Pig and Butcher. Head chef is Neil Rankin (John Salt).

The idea is to celebrate delicious, seasonal food from great suppliers alongside craft beers (20 on tap), hand-pulled local ales and an exclusively European wine list from only small family vineyards. Smokehouse will work with the same farms and fishermen as The Pig and Butcher with some of Rankin’s suppliers too for rare breed meats, vegetables and fish from the south coast.

Rankin will will house smoke fish and meat over the charcoal grill. “The food will have a strong BBQ influence using a real wood and charcoal offset smoker, a bespoke robata grill and green eggs,” he says, explaining that his style will be defined and gutsy with lots of big flavours and wide-reaching influences.

Dishes include Lobster and spring onion frittata, Fritto misto with romesco, Short-rib Bourguignon, Pork mixed grill and Peppered ox cheek with cauliflower cheese and gravy. Nightly specials feature Rib racks and Brisket straight out of the smoker and there’s also a bar menu of Fie gras club sandwiches, Crab on toast and Chicken fried ribs.

Ambiance wise expect roaring log fires in winter and a 50-cover country garden for lazy summer days and evenings.
