Chicken is a big deal in London, whether it’s grilled on a robata, served as wings or deep fried with a bucket of chips and eaten at the end of a night – however it is we love it. What about turkey though? It doesn’t get much love January to November. That’s all to change though with the opening of Strut & Cluck.

Launching next month in Shoreditch it follows a successful Shoreditch residency and will see husband and wife team Limor and Amir champion their hero ingredient, free-range turkey, in Eastern Mediterranean dishes. Marinated for 24 hours in the family spice an herb blend, the turkeys are then slow-cooked to ensure tenderness.  They’ll be avoiding deep frying and saturated fats and sticking to methods like grilling in a charcoal oven and roasting to keep things healthy. If it’s healthy you’re after 1lb of skinless turkey breast has less calories and more protein than 1lb of skinless chicken breast…just saying.

The menu will be split into different sections: Nibbled, Roasted and Tossed and will offer vegetarian dishes as well as a range of puddings with an eastern Mediterranean twist.  On the drinks list you’ll find cocktails and craft beers.

The 75 cover restaurant will look to the couple’s love of natural materials, as well as the Bauhaus architectural style prevalent in Tel Aviv for its décor. A 12 seater central bar will be clad in tiles resembling the feather formations of a strutting turkey (move over peacock), there’ll be a private dining room for eight guests and the largest seating area in the bar will be filled with hanging baskets, lanterns and natural light. Limor’s own art work will adorn the walls, as well as period pieces, decorations and eclectic furniture from the couple’s own collection.

Remember a turkey isn’t just for Christmas…
