The Alchemist will specialise in innovative cocktails when it opens next month in the in the City’s newly-developed Bevis Marks building, adjacent to The Gherkin. Part of the Living Ventures stable with venues already in Manchester and Leeds, name of the game is transformative cocktails and The Alchemist’s mixologists promise to combine unexpected ingredients with innovative techniques and unconventional equipment.

Think sharing kettles such as the Watermelon Man – Green Mark Russian vodka, Beefeater gin, Havana 3 rum and Cointreau mixed with cranberry, lemonade, lime and watermelon or refillable 3 ½ oz hip flasks such as Happiness – Beefeater gin, Briottet raspberry and Vermouth with a dash of orange bitters.

You can snack on ‘tapatizers’ (see what they did there) such as edamame beans, spring rolls and beer battered prawn lollipops with sweet chilli dipping sauce or opt for something a little more substantial like gourmet sandwiches – beetroot and chargrilled halloumi with toasted pumpkin seeds, burgers, salads such as chicken Caesar, and mains dishes from fish and chips to Thai curries and Japanese ramen.

The all-day restaurant and bar for up to 158 covers is light and airy with large windows, a muted colour scheme, sleek high stools and comfy Chesterfield sofas. There are also pre-bookable spaces  for private parties plus an outdoor terrace for a spot of al fresco drinking and dining.
