Benugo has just launched The Garden Café within the newly restored Brown Hart Gardens which is an elevated public square over a Grade 2 listed building in Mayfair. The café is the newest addition to the Benugo group. Other venues include recent launch Field’s Bar & Kitchen in Lincoln’s Inn Fields and then Serpentine Bar & Kitchen in Hyde Park and The Riverfront at BFI Southbank.
Flanked with lush hedgerow, water features, flower beds, as well as the use of the Garden’s original stone seats, the venue, open from breakfast through to lunch and afternoon tea, accommodates 55 people eating in or you can simply grab and go.
The breakfast menu features dishes such as ‘Roast mushroom with scrambled eggs and fresh spinach muffin’ and ‘Smoked streaky bacon & scrambled egg muffin.’. Afternoon Tea is all about freshly baked cakes and desserts – Lemon drizzle cake, Raspberry & chocolate muffins and Chocolate twists – delivered each morning from the group’s nearby London bakery.
Lunchtime highlights include ‘Quinoa salad’ with chorizo sausage, roast butternut, roast onion, grilled red pepper and French dressing, and sandwiches such as ‘Ruben’ with salt beef, Dijon mayo, gherkin, rocket on ciabatta, or bloomers such as such as ‘Hot smoked salmon’ with chive cream cheese, cucumber, and rocket. There’s also a concise wine list with whites such as Garganega Alpha Zeta Italy 2011, Syrah Vignes De L’Englaise Rose and reds such as Borgo Selene Nerello Mascalese 2012. Prosecco is also available.
Brown Hart Gardens lies on the site of a former electricity substation built in 1905 by designer Sir Stanley Peach. The Gardens were closed to the public in the 1980s due to decline but in 2007 were re-opened by Grosvenor following extensive repair.
