It’s Friday so drinks are probably on your agenda – if they are then let us introduce you to The Hyde, a new bar opening at luxury boutique hotel The Royal Park.

It’s the sort of place you go for drinks not draaaanks (there is of course a big difference); it’s elegant, traditional and cosy, with a grand open fireplace and plenty of character. Original period features will be joined by Georgian antiques, grey velvet chairs and banquettes and furniture made from old mahogany and rosewood. During the summer, they’ll be able to host cocktail parties and barbecues for up to 30 in their courtyard.

You’ll find some of the world’s finest wines and spirits including The Balvenie 40, Yamazaki whiskey, Tesseron Extreme Cognac and spirits from the prohibition bourbon list. With the signature cocktail being a combination of calvados, homemade salted butter hazelnut liqueur, Dubonnet and Laurent Perrier Champagne. Other cocktails include Death in the Afternoon made from Absinthe and Champagne and Honey Berry Sour a mix of Davna Honey Vodka, Chambord, sugar, lemon and egg white. Wines will be split into The Old World, Trio Nations and The Americas and there’ll also be a strong Champagne list.

To eat will be a small plates menu curated by Head Chef Matt McKiernan with dishes including balsamic glazed heritage beetroot, goat’s cheese arancini; pan-fried quail, bacon crisp, raspberry, quail egg and sesame crusted yellowfin tuna, crushed avocado and wasabi. Whilst for pudding there’ll be chocolate and beetroot cake with Greek yoghurt crème fraiche and sweet potato and pecan fritters with maple syrup and honeycomb.
