What did you do the last time you stayed in a hotel? Had afternoon tea, visited the spa perhaps? How about go and watch a set by the next up and coming bands and artists?
No? Well you can at the St Pancras Renaissance hotel. So you may or may not know that back in the day (we’re talking almost 20 years which is slightly terrifying) the Spice Girls shot their Wannabe video on the Grand Staircase inside the hotel, which is pretty impressive but they are not the only band to grace the hotel. Oh no, the last couple of years has seen the likes of Kodaline, Maverick Sabre and Hudson Taylor perform all as part of their global entertainment platform Renaissance Hotels Presents. Back for its 3rd year the intimate sets see brand new singers and bands perform in the beautiful Booking Office bar and on the 11th March it is the turn of Laura Welsh.
Likened to Adele and Florence and the Machine, if the Staffordshire –born singer sounds familiar it’s because she sang on Gorgon City’s ridiculously catchy 2014 summer anthem Here For You as well as her track Undiscovered featuring on the 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack. And now it’s her turn to do an acoustic set of her debut album Soft Control which is released on the 9th March and includes Hardest Part which was co-written with and features John Legend.
When you think gigs you probably think of a sweaty, dark venue, where you’re shoved right up to the person next to you who is dancing too aggressively, well think again. The Booking Office is situated in the original ticket hall and has a dramatic Victorian – gothic look with large arched windows, a high wooden ceiling and a 29 m long bar – so you won’t have to queue forever. Oh and the other great thing about all the performances at the Booking Office? They’re complimentary.
Laura Welsh performs at the Booking Office 11th March. Over-18s only.
