Who says London isn’t a 24 hour city… Enter the brand new Polo Bar on Bishopsgate near Liverpool Street station. Styling itself as the ultimate Great British Café, it’s open AND licenced 24:7 for all day all night drinking and dining.
Owned by Phillip Inzani, a former Director at Ponti’s, the bar has been designed by Mark Wilkie of The Narrative with banquette seating and tiled walls giving it an urban vibe a bit like a Tube station.
Celebrating the best of British, it specialises in comfort food from full English fry ups and Hertfordshire bacon sarnies to eggs Benedict and slow roasted tomatoes and avocado on toast. There’s even a full English and Champagne combo although they also do organic porridge plus healthy yoghurt and granola. Well, breakfast is the most important meal of the day after all – whatever time it happens to be served!
Otherwise it’s pies with chips or mash, burgers, salt beef sandwiches made from Devon beef and freshly carved roasts with desserts of apple crumble and custard and knickerbocker glories. Tea is served daily from 3pm with freshly baked scones, jam and clotted cream. Again with a Champagne option.
Drinks wise, there’s everything from aforementioned fizz to regional craft beers like Hoxton stout and Shoreditch blonde from the Redchurch Brewery to Chapel Down wines, strawberry and blackcurrant cider from Jake’s Orchard, round the clock cocktails and, of course, not forgetting that all important builders’ cuppa.
