New Year, New Me those dreaded words that litter our Instagram and Facebook feeds, normally accompanied by someone holding a protein shake or a picture of feet in trainers as they head off the to the gym at some unearthly hour. But this time we think we have one that you will like, because Clapham favourite, The Railway Tavern has gone under a refurbishment to start 2016 with a new look.
Downstairs will have contemporary décor mixed with vintage and industrial elements, you’ll find mismatched leather sofas alongside reclaimed church pews and wooden stooling; whilst the colours are warm and rich, think reds, mustards and brown tones. Upstairs they’ve gone for something a little brighter with paintings adorning the blue walls and outside the covered, heated terraces remain, waiting for the weather to change so we can get back to alfresco drinking.
There is a new line up of small plates on the menu, with dishes including chargrilled merguez sausages in spicy pico de gallo with goat’s curd; British sprats coated in linseed, quinoa and poppy seeds with smoked salt and vinegar mayonnaise; BBQ pulled pork sliders; and pumpkin, kale and goat’s cheese croquettes with green chilli and kale pesto. Sunday will see big roasts served up to rid your hangover and spice your own Bloody Marys. The bar will have 5 real ales on draught, as well as craft beers, global wines and a wonderful selection of spirits – because how long are you going to stick to Dry January really?
