The Handbook

Alex Kaye use to be a trader that was until he founded Walter and Monty, he traded the city life for serving up street food cooked on a grill. Now, after finding success at various pop-ups and street food festivals such as Night Tales Walter and Monty finally have a place to call home, Bury Court and it’s opening next month.

The 30 cover restaurant has been designed by the same studio that works on Night Tales: Two First Names and will feature muted greys, navy blues and vintage-gold hues; whilst an open kitchen, marble counter, wooden paneled walls, wooden parquet flooring and a five foot chopping board give it a butcher’s shop feel.

Serving up meat and fish with vibrant East flavours, the menu will be overseen by Head Chef Nick Ross and you’ll find their famous beef picanha alongside butterflied leg of lamb marinated in mint, garlic and lemon, pair it with a flatbread or with rice and salad and a choice of six house sauces ranging from Scotch Bonnet for those who like it hot and a more mellow feta and garlic. If meat isn’t your thing then you might think Walter and Monty isn’t for you, but you’d be wrong (weren’t you told never to assume?) because each day they’ll be serving up five different salads including the likes of beans and peas salad, cauliflower salad made with a mixture of roasted and deep fried cauliflower as well as brown butter croutons, crispy pancetta and shaved parmesan.

During the day a breakfast counter will serve coffee and then when they extend their hours to the evening it’ll be replacing caffeine with alcohol as they serve up Bloody Marys and Dirty Martinis as well as each banquette having its own limitless beer on tap – things are going to get boozy.

If that wasn’t enough to tempt you then they’ll be offering free food at lunch time to celebrate their opening on the 14th and 15th April – hurrah!
