It has been confirmed that jewellery mogul Stephen Webster has been appointed the new Creative Director of Garrard. Rumours started circulating after Ron Burkle, who bought Garrard last year, also purchased a 49 per cent stake of Stephen Webster’s own company back in 2007.
He will be replacing Jade Jagger, overseeing all of the company’s design team and creative development. It has been said that Webster will bring a modern edge to new pieces alongside maintaining the distinguished heritage that gave Garrard its name.
His new projects at Garrard will include a designing a women’s range using red, black and white gemstones, a bold men’s range, inspired by British sportsmen, in a mix of black, green, brown and gold, as well as an exciting collaboration with guest designer, Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman, due to be launched in autumn this year. A further guest designer will be named in 2010. Sarah Eddlestone, spokesperson for Stephen Webster says, ‘This is an exciting new move but he will still continue to be creative director at Stephen Webster.’
It has also just been announced that a new flagship boutique will open in May, cushioned by other greats in the jewellery industry, Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga and Christian Louboutin, on Mount Street. Miss Eddlestone says: ‘The new store is opening in a fabulous period building, it is very exciting. The boutique will reflect Stephen’s renowned design aesthetic: glamorous and opulent with a hint of ‘rock and roll glamour.’ She adds, ‘Kelly Hoppen and Stephen will also be collaborating on the interiors.’
Webster has an immaculate portfolio of prominent clients, including female celebs Madonna, Sharon Stone, Cameron Diaz, Christina Aguilera as well as Johnny Depp, Sir Elton John, Nicholas Cage and Michael Stipe. A fresh ad campaign shot by Craig McDean will once again feature close friend Christina Aguilera looking modern and futuristic and will be launch in spring this year.
A stunning heart stud pendant made from blackened silver with pink jade will also be available exclusively from Selfridges for Valentines Day for £350.
