Ozark Comes To An End With Its Fourth Season

Ozark, the Netflix crime drama about a family falling into the world of money laundering, is coming to an end soon with the second part of its fourth and final season. The first part released on the streaming platform a few weeks ago in January, and now a release date has been confirmed for Part Two.

The show, which stars Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner, has worked its way into becoming one of the most popular shows of recent years, moving past early comparisons to other series like Breaking Bad and coming into its own. The previous part of the season, which had seven episodes, has set up the final stretch of episodes with some of the series’ strongest television yet.

There’s a promise of closure and answers...

Without being too spoilery, the start of Part One seemed to show that the central characters of the series Marty (Bateman) and Wendy (Linney) were about to leave their life in the Ozarks to finally head back to Chicago, before Marty accidentally crashes their van, and the rest of the season is told in flashback. What follows is seven episodes of thrilling TV, with betrayals, murders and cartel clashes, culminating in an explosive final scene which may see Garner pick up yet another Emmy after winning twice for her portrayal of Ruth.

So, what’s going to happen in the remaining 7 instalments? While not a huge amount has been given away (unsurprisingly), it’s been confirmed that it’ll pick up almost immediately where the Part One finale left off- “we would be cheating everybody if we jumped past the emotional place we were in” says show runner Chris Mundy. There’ll be plenty more of Ruth’s story and character, as she comes to head with Marty and Wendy, and there’s a promise of closure and answers, including happened to cause Marty to crash in episode 1’s opening.

The taglines for the season so far have been “No one gets out clean” and “The end is near”- and Skylar Gartener (who plays Jonah) has teased that the show will “pull all the stops with the finale”. All of this indicates that the show is gearing up for an awesome and potentially tragic finale, that will give the series the closure it needs, all while satisfying longtime fans. While it’s a shame that the series won’t be continuing after these last seven episodes, Mundy has explained that “we didn’t want to repeat ourselves, we didn’t want the show to feel like it was continuing because it was a TV show and it had to continue.” So, expect Part Two to be a definitive ending for the Brydes’ story and one of the best shows in recent years.
