One for the diary: Southbank Centre’s riverside food and drink pop-ups

With holidaying abroad off the cards this summer, travel the world through food at Southbank Centre’s street food market and riverside food and drink pop-ups. 

On 30th April, Southbank Centre’s popular street food market and riverside food and drink pop-ups will return for the summer season, bringing with them over 20 cuisines from around the world to sample. From Korean BBQ and fragrant Pad Thai, to moreish hot dogs and classic fish and chips, you are guaranteed to find a dish that’ll satisfy your foodie cravings.

The king of pop-ups Jimmy Garcia has already returned with his BBQ Club, serving up all of your barbecue favourites, including 45-day aged sirloin steaks and adobo cod cheek tacos. Paired alongside English summer lawn games, you won’t want to head anywhere else this summer. Applebee’s Fish pop-up has also pitched up early, helping to bring the British seaside to the city with the poshest fish and chips on offer for city dwellers to enjoy overlooking the Thames.

From 30th April, they’ll be joined by four more pop-ups. Stroll along the riverside enjoying foodie offerings from hot dog specialists Oh My Dog! and burger maestros Truffle. Grab a fresh juice from Elephant Juice or quench your thirst with a cold pint or two from The Hop Locker. Hosted outside, it’s the perfect spot to reconnect with old friends over a bite to eat and soak up some of the best riverside views in the city.

Try out The Savoy London’s new alfresco dining spot, Solas 

Alfresco dining is all the rage this summer and The Savoy is joining in on the action, launching a short-season pop-up – Solas. It’s the first time in The Savoy’s history and it’s opening this week marks The Savoy and Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky’s new collaboration. 

Gaelic for light, joy and comfort, Solas will be located on the Savoy Court and will boast a menu comprising delicious seafood and tempting cocktails. 

Sure, this weekend might be all booked up but it’s definitely one worth visiting over the next couple of months. You might even spot a celeb or two while you’re there…

Get your live music fix at Seven Dials Unplugged

Fall back in love with the beauty of live music this weekend and head to Seven Dials to catch the return of their Unplugged sessions. Back by popular demand, this weekend sees live acoustic performances take place across the seven famous streets. 

Running every Saturday until late June, it’s the perfect stop off while you roam the streets and catch up on all important shopping or catch up with friends and family at one of the area’s excellent alfresco dining spots.

Visit Ted Baker’s pop-up ice cream campervan 

To celebrate the reopening of stores and the launch of their new spring/summer collection, Ted Baker has teamed up with Pan-N-Ice to serve up complimentary British-inspired ice cream flavours to customers. 

The Ted Baker branded campervan will be pulling up at the SouthBank Observation Point this Friday, 11am – 7pm, serving up delicious ice cream flavours. Tempting flavours include Cookies N Dream, Caramel Made Me Do It and Eton Messy. Each ice cream tub will also give customers the chance to win exclusive Ted Baker prizes through the peel and reveal stickers on the cups.

Join in with the Saint George’s Day pavement party at Brown’s Hotel 

Add a little luxury to your Saint George’s Day plans and head to Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair to take part in their pavement party. 

Following the success of their complimentary afternoon tea pop-up earlier this month, Brown’s will be on hand this Friday serving up complimentary British classic dishes from Charlie’s in honour of Saint George’s Day. Head down and feast on dishes such as free-range chicken terrine, garden asparagus with homemade hollandaise and wild mushroom pithivier pies, alongside Hambledon’s award-winning English sparkling wine. 

Alongside the food, there’ll also be live music from The Travelling Hands and there’s the chance to enter a competition to win a dinner for two at Brown’s when the hotel reopens too!

For those on the lookout for new homeware and treats, look to Eccleston Yards Market. Last week saw the return of the famed market, bringing Belgravia dwellers the chance to peruse the independent stalls. 

Running every Sunday, head down and look through the hand-crafted goodies, from homeware to jewellery, plants to baked goods, all from independent and small, artisan businesses.

Grab a bargain Vinegar Yard’s flea market 

If, like us, you’ve missed perusing the best antiques and lost treasures that London has to offer, fear not as Flea London has returned to Vinegar Yard! Running every Saturday and Sunday, Vinegar Yard will be transformed into an antique dealers haven as an eclectic mix of stalls will set up shop. 

Peruse for hours and uncover hidden gems amongst the traders. Find everything from vinyl and cameras to jewellery and vintage clothing, antiques and retro furniture to books, as well as new designs from rising names in the fashion and design world.

Catch Netflix’s latest debut series, Shadow and Bone

For fans of The Witcher and His Dark Materials, there’s a new fantasy series headed to Netflix this weekend and it’s set to bring conspiring dark forces, a worn-torn world and magic together. 

Starring Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes and Freddy Carter, Shadow and Bone follows a young orphan mapmaker who discovers she beholds a greater power within and she’s not the only one who wants to understand more about the magic she possesses. This Netflix release is based on the debut novel written by American author Leigh Bardugo.
