The Playboy Club is one of my favourite venues, perfectly combining opulence with a sense of fun. Walking into Salvatore’s Bar, the room is heaving with lavishness; plush gentlemen’s chairs and bottles of alcohol displayed in the glass cabinet that cost more than my car set the scene, which is interjected by raucous laughter at the bar as a cocktail master class is taking place. The bunnies are in their festive Santa suits, sashaying confidently around with beaming smiles.

One of my favourite meals is afternoon tea; oh you didn’t know afternoon was a meal? Well it definitely is. The Playboy Club has added their personal touch to their tea, kicking off with a teapot cocktail in Spicy, Floral, Fruity and Traditional. All the cocktails come served chilled in a Te’Freddo Teapot which is deceptively heavy including the pyramid looking metal cup; a rather more masculine option than the typical Cath Kidston type crockery normally associated with afternoon teas. The Traditional cocktail consist of English breakfast tea, rum and cognac infused with sultanas, fresh milk and honey which has the look of English tea but a taste reminiscent of Baileys.

The savoury sandwiches are a good size with a mix of mini baguettes filled with roast beef, seeded bread with egg salad and asparagus, and London smoked salmon blini. The tomato bruschetta stole the show with a delicious sour dough base topped with tangy tomato, basil and a splash of high quality oil makes it an indulgent salty dish.

The Playboy Club puts their stamp on the sweets with two chocolate bunny ears protruding out of the chocolate and Guinness cupcake. Cute as they were, I’d already had my advent chocolate and was expecting a higher quality. The clotted cream shot looked a little like a Halloween treat filled with mock brains thanks to the mix of strawberry compote and clotted cream layers but it tasted like a dream. The carrot cake had an almost chewy toffee exterior with a moist centre dotted with walnuts and sultanas; cream cheese icing completed the mini dessert. Four mini berry macaroons complete the sweet section, a raspberry hidden inside the chocolate buttercream stopped it from being too cloying.

Throughout the evening a female pianist enchants us with her playing and Salvatore himself takes the time to greet us as he does with all his guests, a great personal touch which leaves a good impression. Our bunny for the evening was lovely and provided impeccable service throughout evening.
