Oh we do like to be beside the seaside…we like it even more when we are staying in a trendy hotel. Located on the imposing Grand Regency Square, only 10 minutes' walk from the centre of town, is the Artist Residence offering an authentic taste of Brighton's offbeat, artistic character.
This boutique hotel's real selling point is its cool, quirky vibe perfect for cool, quirky individuals like myself. The bare floorboards and exposed brickwork, teamed with stylish designer furniture and reclaimed wood, create a fun yet surprisingly homely feel. Despite the hotel's origin as converted townhouses, the rooms are spacious, and each one has been individually designed. If you get tired of being in your room snug lounge offers a relaxing space with a good selection of magazines, books and games.
There are plenty of fun dining options around the area but it's tempting to begin (and end) the evening with a visit to the hotel's atmospheric cocktail bar, whose extensive menu has a hearty rum theme. Our only qualm with this hotel is that the bar can be a little noisy – but the sound-proofing is pretty effective, so any disturbance in guest rooms should be minimal.
Before we left to enjoy the wonderful Brighton culture (the fudge shop) we were treated to the best scrambled eggs we'd ever eaten, as well as the amazing coffee which is batch-roasted locally. The hotel's staff were friendly and attentive throughout our stay, and we were sorry to leave.
