Cocktails at the opening of the Churchill bar and terrace

The Churchill Bar and Terrace officially opened at The Hyatt Regency London yesterday and The Handbook went down to take a peek. One of the most striking elements is the attention to detail in the interior and design of the bar which is based on the young Churchill and his immense love for his wife, Clementine.

Whether it is the knitted animals on the bookshelves, the little sketches of the animals on the menus, which Churchill and Clementine used to sign off their love letters or the personal photographs donated by his daughter everything reflects the Churchill behind the politician.

The walls too are adorn with art  such as an exclusive portrait of Churchill by Annemarie Wright entitled ‘ We Shall Fight Them on the Beaches’ which is made up of his infamous speeches which are hand written to create the image and is based on the iconic photograph by Elspeth Juda. Or the vintage map dating from 1880 which charts Churchill’s travels throughout his life time.

Whilst we were there we sipped on cocktails, the Trafalgar Sour and the wonderfully pink Somerset Smash were particular favourites but the The T & Tonic was a high contender and very refreshing. We also sample some of the wonderful sharing plates on offer, the Scotch Quail Eggs with Tartare Sauce were gorgeous as was the Loch Fyne Smoked Scottish Salmon Cream Cheese and Dill. We also sampled the cheese and biscuits which although were delicious, felt were a little over priced for the portion size.

With its dark panelling, soft lighting and excellent cocktails The Churchill Bar is sophisticated, subtle and the perfect place to relax on dark winter evenings.
