While we're all aware that the Glorious Twelfth marks the start of the game season, it takes a real aficionado to know that it's the first frosts that really get the pheasant, grouse and woodcock in flight. Frost. Check. So this week, we decided to see if Corrigan's of Mayfair had bagged themselves a winner…
We went for the humorously titled Game Birds Menu (£25pp) where you get a choice of three plates out of a selection including Pressed heritage beetroot, Salad of teal, Nettle gnocchi (although admittedly this hasn't been shot) and Mallard and brown butter. Fave by far though was the Pumpkin ravioli with grouse.
The plates are smaller that main course size – otherwise you'd have to be a really game bird to polish off all three and a pretty game chap as well as it goes – so we still had room for some delicious cheese to finish.
