The Cookery Classes Helping Those With Cancer

The Cookery Classes Helping Those With Cancer

As if battling with cancer wasn’t tough enough, it is thought that 80% of those undergoing chemotherapy will lose their ability to taste, taking away one of life’s smallest but best pleasures.

London is a city dominated by food and now of its most iconic restaurants, the 24/7 sky-high, Duck & Waffle has teamed up with charity, Life Kitchen to host free cookery classes across the UK for those living with cancer. Founder Ryan Riley set up Life Kitchen in memory of his mother, Krista, who lost her battle against cancer at just 47 and now with the help of pioneering research from Professor Barry Smith of the University of London, the charity is working on recipes that will help those who have lost or are losing their ability to taste. Along with Tom Cenci, executive chef of Duck & Waffle, the cookery classes will be for just twelve people at a time so that everyone can benefit from the teaching.

They duo have also created a dish for the Duck & Waffle menu, a spiced duck doughnut with charred pineapple jam. Taking inspiration from the signature Duck & Waffle doughnut combined with the famous pineapple tacos from the Life Kitchen classes, the dish will help raise to money for the Life Kitchen as profits will help fund future Life Kitchen classes.

The Life Kitchen cookery classes at Duck & Waffle start on 7th August. They are free of charge but spaces are limited to twelve people: six people who are currently undergoing treatment plus a guest each.
