New? Opened on 9th April 2016 The Good Ship Benefit is only here for a short time before it sails away on the 31st August.
Where? Victoria Embankment, WC2N 5DJ www.goodshipbenefit.com
On the menu: They do everything from cocktails to afternoon tea to a full sit down, 3 course dinner. Plus the full Benefit make up range can be bought in The Brow Lounge where you can also receive brow treatments.
First Impressions: Really easy to find from Embankment station and well-advertised, there’s a friendly captain aboard dressed in full attire who’s happy to guide you round the ship as some of the rooms’ locations are semi-hidden. It’s worth noting that this is a real ship and, although anchored, it does rock slightly which takes a little bit of getting used to but is not really a major issue.
The Look: Each room is themed with a popular Benefit product like the turquoise POREfessional Bar serving martinis, Pinkton Parlour bar and the black They’re Real! style, Lashitude restaurant. It’s a great quirk which incorporates their brand whilst also creating unique drinking and dining spaces.
What We Ate: Asparagus with a parmesan croute and confit egg yolk to start, four cheese tortellini for a main, and then the Benefit sundae to finish which is a mix of strawberry ice cream and sponge, meringue, oat biscuits, fresh raspberries and pink cream with a Benefit branded wafer. The food here is of a good standard, of course the main focus is the make-up but definitely a good effort.
What We Drank: Pier 29 (vodka, St Germain, lemon, mint, apple and lemongrass syrup) is refreshing and sweet while the Lemon Berry Fever (vodka, blackcurrant liqueur, lemon and Sicilian lemonade) was an equally solid choice. Chandon sponsors the ship so appears in numerous cocktails in the Hoola Deck, Lashitiude Restaurant and the Benefit Bar – try the Evita Sprit with elderflower cordial and an orange twist.
Go With: Your gal pals.
Final Word: This is total girl heaven (especially if you’re a fan of Benefit make-up) from the pampering treatments to the décor to the bar. The Good Ship Benefit also hosts free comedy evenings and even fitness classes, so you can feel good as well as look good. It’s a nice touch to be able to enjoy views of the river and major landmarks like the London Eye and Houses of Parliament whilst dining and will make an ideal spot when the weather warms up. The decking area is ideal for soaking up the sun, drink in hand and soon they will start hosting morning yoga.
