Shake Your Tail Feathers With These Rio Carnival Plans

In an ideal world, we’d have all nabbed ourselves tickets for Rio to see their carnival celebrations come to life in true form, but sadly we were too busy worrying how to space out our limited annual leave over the next 12 months. But, if you do fancy dolling up in your favourite colourful costume, tail feathers and all, London is having a celebration of its own in honour of the vibrant festival. Here’s where to shake your tail feathers this weekend:

SUSHISAMBA

Forget forking out for a hefty plane ticket this weekend because Rio is coming to London, more specifically SUSHISAMBA. Expect to be shaking your tail feathers with samba dancers, tapping to the beat of the batucada drummers and partying into the night with the Brazillan beats. A whole traditional Carnaval-inspired menu has been created to go alongside the boozy caipirinhas. It’s sure to be a night to remember. Costumes encouraged.

WHEN: THURSDAY 20TH – SUNDAY 23RD FEBRUARY
WHERE: COVENT GARDEN / HERON TOWER

Mortimer House

Mortimer House is channeling carnival vibes with a little help from Brazilian chef and ex-Masterchef Professional Luciana Berry and her glorious six-course tasting menu running until March 7th. Expect her contemporary take on Brazilan classics fully utilising traditional ingredients including cassava, cured meats and cashew. For the big carnival weekend, there’s a few extra celebrations thrown in too so you can expect to be dancing into the night to live samba music.

Fusing together fine flavours from Peru, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, Zuaya is our favourite spot for authentic South American flavours. In honour of the Rio Carnival, why not tap, tap, tap your way through punchy tapas, an endless supply of Pisco sours and good times.

Electric Brixton

Renowned for pumping out the tunes night after night, Electric Brixton are pulling out all the stops for a mega carnival themed club night hosted by Rampage Sounds (BBC 1xtra). United Colours of Mas, the UK’s wildest mas band, will be up on stage alongside carnival performers, DJs and MCs going at it all frigging night.

Their Leadenhall Street branch serves up London’s finest cuts of steak, while you’ll find the younger sibling in St Paul’s is an expert in Brazilian barbequing.

Yes, their bar stools might be a little creepily looking, but we’re willing to forgive the Long Bar at the Sanderson Hotel as they sure know how to throw one hell of a party! Expect an evening of free flowing cocktails, Brazilian beats and even carnival-style face painting. Doll up in your favourite feathers and enjoy the ride.

Made In Brasil

It’s not like Camden Town to do anything by halves so we’re certainly glad Brazilian restauranteur, Made in Brasil (not a typo, it’s the Portuguese spelling) is coming through with the Rio Carnival celebrations. With bold interiors and a cocktail menu championing the finest exotic ingredients from the Amazon rainforest, you sure know you’re going to have one hell of a night.
