The traditional apothecary, replete with potions and lotions, has been brought into the twenty first century by Brendan Murdock, founder of Anatomē. Passionate about botanicals and essential oils and an expert in food, perfume and skincare, Murdock has recreated this ancient institution.

Ssōne

Ssōne is a contemporary womenswear brand rooted in craft. Their thoughtfully designed clothes bring the traditions of craft into the modern wardrobe, and the result is responsible and long lasting.

Zayna

Riz Dar basically is Zayna. The unique restaurant aims to introduce guests to the North Indian cuisine Dar grew up with. His father was a restauranteur and Indian spices and Punjabi flavours were a crucial part of his upbringing. After working in high-end restaurants in California he made the jump to the UK and opened Zayna in 2009.

The rest is history. 

This weekend. Enjoy Zayna’s Indian Offal Menu including sheep’s trotters, chicken livers, lambs sweetbreads for the meat eaters and daily specials like bitter Mellon. They also have a range of assorted lentils and turnip recipes for vegetarians.

The Gallery of Everything

If you’ve spent 2020 staring at four bare walls then you’ve clearly not visited The Gallery of Everything. London’s first commercial gallery dedicated to non-academic artists and private art-makers, they display art for all price levels and aim to communicate ‘a parallel history of modern and contemporary art to a British and international audience’.

Atlas Gallery

If you’re still in an arty mood then head on to Atlas Gallery, a commercial gallery space focused on 20th-century photography, from fashion to journalism. Currently exhibiting Endurance and the Great White Silence on the ground floor, a combination of  the Antarctic photographs of Frank Hurley, Herbert Ponting and Captain Scott, the exhibition showcases high quality platinum palladium prints of these iconic images.

On the lower floor another exhibition, MADE IN JAPAN, presents a selection of prints from a diverse range of photographers.

Thompson’s Gallery

Thompson’s Gallery deals in 20th and 21st Century paintings, sculptures and photography, and specialises in contemporary British and Scottish art. They hold  mixed and solo exhibitions annually and currently they have a great exhibition thanks to artist James Fullarton.

This weekend: James Fullarton’s Shelter-In-Paint, a play on the lockdown term shelter-in-place, looks at the tumultuous events of 2020 in an oil painter’s manifestation of the ‘work from home’ mandate. As we look forward to 2021 it’s worth a look back.

The Wallace Collection

The world famous Wallace Collection is never more than a short walk away when you’re in Portman Marylebone. Containing masterpieces of paintings, sculpture, furniture, arms and armour and porcelain, the collection was built up over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace and is recognised as one of the finest and most celebrated collections in the world

One for the diary: 46 years on Chiltern Street and going strong, Grey Flannel will be celebrating their birthday on Thursday 17th December with a shopping day and evening during which they’ll be serving complimentary drinks and limited edition hand crafted items by resident craftsmen Martin Welch, Fashion Illustrator and Kingsley Walters, Bespoke Leathersmith.
