The 2022 Nail Trends Everyone Will Be Wearing

By Tamara Corin | 10th March 2022

Is it us or do you feel that images of nails are taking over your Insta feed? The high demand for our post-lockdown desire to have fun, be more daring and experimental has quickly spilled over to our digits. A sense of freedom, a celebration of colour and creativity couldn’t be more present than in the current nail trends. And we’re excited to jump on board. Here, we reveal the hottest nail trends to try now…

Play with dark colours

Who said that the onset of Spring means we must brush off the dust to our pastel and nude polishes? Not this year. Rich chocolate brown is trending as the colour of the season and beyond, and unlike the usual sorbet shades of Spring, brown polishes flatter all skin tones. We spotted Hailey Bieber and Olivia Rodrigo hinting at the fact bold, dark colours are a trend to watch this year. But a word of advice:  Have something on hand to correct mishaps and clean up edges as the bolder the colour the more obvious mistakes are.

Add a twist to your French manicure

Traditional French manicures have never gone out of fashion, but this year we’re breaking the nail rule book and replacing our usual nude and pinky tones with bolder shades and shaking up the original French manicure technique. Reverse French manis (colour at the cuticle instead of the tips) is fast becoming an Instagram favourite look but be warned it takes patience and precision. French tips of all shapes, thicknesses even abstract designs and edgy twists are ruffling up our favourite manicure – but we like it!

Create metallic accents

Whether it’s a handbag or a makeup palette silver and gold always add a regal and special touch, and now fingers are getting the molten treatment. Strips of silver along cuticles or gold chain embellishments are set to be huge. Foil flakes is an easy option for a DIY mani or a base coat with metallic vibes. Try chromes and decadent glitter polishes if nail art isn’t your thang!

DIY nail art

Adults are getting in on the tween trend and dressing up their digits with stickers. Handy and foolproof stick-on designs have been on the rise the last few years, with Google seeing a 187% increase in nail sticker searches over the past three months. They will transform your nails in seconds and add a playful touch to your look. Get on board!

Sheer polishes are having a resurgence. It's time to bring our hands and nails back to life with heaps of base coat, hand cream and sheer nude polishes.

Mix and match for full effect

It’s like pic n’ mix sweets, but with nail polish. Mismatch your nails with different colours, textures, patterns, the lot! Imagine your younger self being left freely to run riot in a nail bar, that’s the look you want to create. Everything goes and there are endless options. To add glamour to your look, keep to one colourway and then play on patterns and accents instead of hues.

Go big on bling

Heads up, start investing in nail glue now, because this trend is going to get bigger and bigger. It’s raised the bar on nail art, expect lots of rhinestones, crystals, and gems. Go all out by covering your entire nail bed or instead just randomly dot some bling on a few of your nails. You can bet your talons will be a talking point for anyone that sees you.

Dare to bare

Clean, healthy well-groomed nails are subtle yet classy. Sheer polishes are having a resurgence with the focus on moisturised cuticles, clean shapes, and hydrated hands. With sanitiser having played such a pivotal role in our lives over the last couple of years, it’s finally time to bring your hands and nails back to life with heaps of base coat, hand cream and sheer nude polishes – or even a hand scrub!

Get arty

Have you heard of geode nails? Expect this nail trend to influx your social media as the look for sophisticated talons that you can recreate at home but look utterly professional. Geode nail art replicates the colouration found in natural rock formation. Using different shades from the same colour palette, nails are painted in squiggly, smoke-like lines and then finished with a hint of gold. It’s like a marble-effect but with added artistry.
