It’s the last weekend before Christmas – and our last weekend guide of the year. Where has the time gone? From writing about indoor activities when we were in the brunt of lockdown to all of the exciting pop-ups and openings to explore when London reopened again, to now scribbling about last minute Christmas events to attend, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year.

So for one last time (until the new year at least)… Whether you’re scrambling to find somewhere to buy any last minute gifts or you’re looking to spend the weekend uncovering the story of Titanic in a new exhibition, here’s what to do.

Challenge your pals to a competitive game of shuffleboard

Seek out your inner competitiveness and challenge your friends to a game of shuffleboard at London Shuffle Club. The perfect place for some last minute Christmas gatherings with friends or colleagues before you break up for Christmas, you’re guaranteed to have a swell night at this Shoreditch venue.

For those who love a brunch, head down on a Saturday and Sunday for their Bottomless Shuffle Brunch. Expect unlimited sourdough pizzas, plus bottomless Prosecco or beer. Or, head over to their winter terrace. Created in collaboration with Absolut vodka, the terrace has been given a cosy makeover, complete with a canopy of fairy lights, fire pits and blankets. Toast s’mores over the fire, boogie to the festive tunes filling the air and keep entertained with a round of shuffleboarding.

Catch Tate Modern’s floating exhibition

You’ll probably have seen this one floating about your TikTok and Instagram, but it really is worth the visit…

Tate Modern’s Hyundai Commision, In Love With The World by Anicka Yi, looks at a new ecosystem inside the Turbine Hall. Once a space that was built to house electricity-generating machines, Yi’s special installation brings back machinery to the space. Only her machines can be found floating in the air…

Looking like jellyfish, the machines, called aerobes, are influenced by ocean life forms and mushrooms, and reimagine artificial intelligence. Fun to watch as they bob around the room, don’t miss your chance to see them in action.

When: Until 6th February
Where: Turbine Hall – Tate Modern, Bankside, SE1 9TG

See London’s version of the Northern Lights

Inspired by the Northern Lights, the space has been lit up with stunning mesmerising colours, replicating the movement of the Aurora Borealis. The installation is free to visit and will be running from 11th until 22nd December.
