Few things get more traction from London’s thirsty twenty-somethings than a bar, restaurant or cinema experience with “secret” in the title. We’re a city obsessed with being in the know and knowing the next best thing before anyone else does. So hurrah, you can now add secret pub to your about town list.
The Secret Garden, part of The Regent pub in Balham, is accessed only through a secret, Narnia-style wardrobe framed with blooming summer botanicals. Inside, or outside rather (it’s actually a secret pub garden) you’ll find an enchanted hideaway decked out with hanging lights, bamboo, flowers, cosy seating and rustic, socially-distanced benches to create a space that’s as close to festival vibes you’re going to get this summer.

The summer space actually has its own charming backstory having been created as part of a wider community project. Using the outdoor area of the school next door, the partnership helps to support the school while it’s shut over the summer months and post-COVID, while giving its punters somewhere to enjoy an Aperol spritz in the sunshine.
Locals in the area have really come together to support the project, donating plant pots, wheelbarrows and planters to make the space look like its very own little festival haven.
Open until the end of August until 10pm every night, it’s the perfect spot for summertime sundowners, al fresco brunches or long lazy lunches. The team will be serving up all the pub classics, from burgers to sharing boards and small plates like duck arancini, sticky crispy wings and vegan jalapeño and cheddar cornbread – yum.
Book your spot through the secret door now until the end of August.
The Secret Garden is open daily until the end of August from 12pm-10pm.
