One of the best hotels in London is about to add a new cocktail bar to its premises, and it looks to be spectacular. The Standard, London, is a truly luxurious hotel located in King’s Cross, just next to the to exit of the underground station. It only opened a few years ago, but it’s already made quite a name for itself in the London hotel scene, which is no mean feat.

The new bar is called Sweetie’s, and will occupy the eastern part of the 10th floor. It can be accessed via The Standard’s very cool “red pill lift”, and was designed by Shawn Hausman. The cocktail menu sounds like it’ll blow your mind and your socks off, centred around “a blend of feel-good ingredients and energising adaptogens and nootropics – including reishi, ashwagandha and holy basil.” Despite the name of the hotel, this won’t be your standard cocktail bar (we had to fit that pun in at some point.)

In an interior inspired by “early 1970s Hollywood opulence” according to the press release, you’ll be able to delve into the world of cocktail mixology with signature drinks like Frothy Boi, which combines lacto-rhubarb with gin, raspberry, pink pepper and fermented amazke oats, Pick Me Up, made with 8 adaptogenic mushrooms, brown vodka, buttery cacao and coffee, and Crystal Healing, which is a vivid blue and made with spirulina, pepper dulse seaweed distillate, bergamont and electrolye-rich coconut ice.

There’ll also be non-alchohlic versions of these beverages, like the Holy Thurdsay featuring holy basil, green peppermint and white chocolate, and the No Whey José, made with hot and cold strawberry, rose, red rice milk and a salted coconut and lime leaf foam. It all sounds very health and wellness oriented, while tasting good and keeping things relaxed. It’s certainly different to a lot of other bars you’d find in London and Britain in general, but the use of herbal medicine ingredients in cocktails is becoming something of a craze.

It’s not just the drinks that’ll be of interest to you: the bar will have an exciting roster of international DJs to make the evening even more vibrant, with a custom-made Funktion-One sound system powering the good vibrations. Some of the DJs mentioned as having given the sound system a whirl in the past include Honey Dijon, Louie Vega and Horse Meat Disco, to give you an idea of the “flavour of the sounds to come.” You’ll be able to dance and vibe into the earling morning, and there’s room for 80 people seated and 150 standing.

So if you’re planning on staying a night in King’s Cross anytime soon and have been eyeing The Standard, you can put Sweetie’s on the long list of reasons why you should stay. The bar will open on Thurdsay 24th Feburary, and reservations are recommended given the demand it’ll likely bring.
