Coat season may be just around the corner but investing in a new winter coat (or bringing out an old faithful) seems a little premature given the balmy late summer we’re having. Take the opportunity to throw on a lightweight, transeasonal jacket for as long as possible instead. The high street and designer collections are full of them, whether you opt for a casual shacket, boho embroidery or this season’s unexpected hit, quilting. And when autumn does decide to creep in, layer up with a heavy coat over the top.
From Bottega’s cloud-like clutches and pillowy mules to Nanuska’s cult puffer jackets, quilting has become one of 2021’s hottest trends. The high street has naturally followed suit with plenty of wearable iterations. Namely Mango’s leather-look jacket in milky cream – great paired with relaxed denim but even better juxtaposed against pretty pleating and heels. It’s lightweight, slimmer form may not have the same drama as said Nanushka original but it’s definitely easier to wear.
As always M&S, H&M and Zara are worth checking out on the high street too. M&S’s khaki quilted jacket is a more affordable alternative to The Frankie Shop style that’s been spotted on just about every style Instagrammer worth their salt. Zara have a great range of boho pieces this season sure to inject a little bit of fun into your cooler weather wardrobe, and H&M have a host of loose fitting lumber-style shackets that offer plenty of room underneath to layer up once the temperatures drop.

H&M leads the way on the high street when it comes to dressing for those in-between weather days. Case in point: their milky, super soft and oversized shacket that belies its £34.99 price tag. Pair with ribbed leggings and chunky boots in muted tones for a casual autumn look.
