The entire nation will be willing our nonagenarian queen through the next 12 months like never before, because there’s big plans in store for us all. The Platinum Jubilee in 2022 will be a chance for the nation, our overseas territories and The Commonwealth to celebrate an incredible 70 years on the throne, the first monarch to do so. And the packed four-day schedule will see the nation share this incredible milestone with our monarch. Or slink off to the beach.
The plan is to move the usual early summer bank holiday from its usual home on Monday May 30th to Thursday June 2nd and adding a special holiday on the Friday, creating a four day weekend.

The second day, Friday, will involve a special Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign, held at St Paul’s.
On the Saturday the Queen will make her way along with other royals to the Derby at Epsom Downs. This will be followed by a huge live concert at Buckingham Palace, dubbed the Platinum Party at the Palace and promising to include some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars (as yet unspecified).

The four-day weekend will culminate on Sunday with the Big Jubilee Lunch. It’s hoped, as with the last diamond jubilee in 2012, the nation will come together with street parties held throughout the country. Meanwhile the Platinum Jubilee Pageant will feature 5,000 people from the UK and Commonwealth performing around Buckingham Palace in an extravaganza of street art, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume.
