It’s been hailed as the secret to tighter, brighter and more radiant looking skin at home, but does FOREO’s Bear beauty device really deliver? I put it to the test…
I’ve dipped my toe into FOREO products for years now since they launched their now cult hero, the LUNA Cleansing device, back in 2013. It still remains a much-loved tool in my beauty cabinet, leaving me with squeaky clean skin and a great base to layer on product.
Almost a decade later and the Swedish skin tech brand continue to produce innovative, at-home products, the latest being the BEAR. Don’t let the cutesy name and ear-topped gadget fool you, this is an at-home beauty tool that means business. And if there’s a product out there promising to take my glow up a notch, sign me up.
Here’s everything you need to know about the tool that’s basically a workout for your face…
Don’t let the cutesy name and ear-topped gadget fool you, this is an at-home beauty tool that means business.
Ok, what’s it all about?
The term ‘facial fitness’ has been bounced around for a while now, from weird looking gadgets that basically make your facial muscles do the equivalent to a squat to spas entirely dedicated to putting your skin through its paces. In short, the trend isn’t just an empty marketing tool, there is science behind it – the more you work your muscles, the firmer, more radiant your face is going to look.
Enter the BEAR. The tool is the world’s first FDA-cleared medical microcurrent device, which works out 69 muscles in your face and neck using a micro current and sonic pulsations to give your complexion more glow and a slightly snatched look, no invasive procedures required.
What does it promise?
- Firmer, more toned facial muscles.
- Less facial and neck sagging
- Tighter, smoother skin with the reduced look of fine lines and wrinkles
- Boosted skin radiance.
How do you use it?
First of all, you need to set the tool up with an app on your phone. This allows you to access different facial fitness workouts and a wider range of intensities. After this is done, you can use the gadget as you like, on the go (it’s small enough to fit in your toiletry bag) or morning and night as part of your usual routine.
The technique is simple, after cleaning your face with an oil-free cleanser, you slowly glide the metallic spheres – the cute little ears – across your face and neck in an upward motion applying light pressure to the skin. You have to use a serum in conjunction with this to ensure the product is safe and glides as easily as possible and FOREO have created the SERUM SERUM SERUM product to work in perfect partnership – and it does. The lightweight, watery formula makes it really easy to move the tool around the contours of your face and feels much like a spa treatment would. The fact that the serum is packed with thirsty, lacklustre skin-loving ingredients like squalene and hyaluronic acid, I’m reassured there’s even more goodness going into the skin. From here, you follow your usual skincare steps, whether that’s a serum, oil or moisturiser on top.
What’s the damage?
The BEAR doesn’t come cheap at £279 and £179 for the mini travel version, but it is an investment and IMO genuinely works if you put the work in too. If you’re one to splash the cash on one-off facials, the BEAR is probably going to be more cost effective, in that you’re using an at-home version salon-inspired technology every day. It’s without a doubt earns itself a permanent spot on my beauty shelf next to the trusty FOREO cleansing device too.
I’ve really come to enjoy the two-minute ritual of doing this in the morning and before bed and I have genuinely noticed a difference in my skin’s texture and brightness after just a couple of weeks of using the tool.
It’s made the products I use afterwards sink in better and it also keeps me on track to doing a full-step routine morning and night, because, let’s face it, nothing is a miracle worker if you don’t carry it out regularly. In terms of a tighter, more lifted appearance, there are few things that are going to really give you those results without something more clinical and invasive, but the BEAR has definitely made me feel more contoured. My brows feel a little lifted and my skin less dull and relaxed. It’s given me the confidence to wear less foundation and instead reap the benefits of my skincare routine over my makeup.
