London’s Wedding Venues

Friday 14th February 2014

London might have lost out on the ‘city of love’ title to Paris, it might not be Venice, but the beauty and history of its most distinguished buildings give it an undeniable romantic air, a charm, a certain je ne sais quoi, and with wedding season approaching The Handbook is giving you a heads up on some of the best wedding venues in London, encompassing grandeur, history, stunning views and glorious gardens.

Trinity House

With a rich history in sea fare spanning over 500 years, Trinity House, overlooks the Tower of London and down onto the Thames, meaning not only do you have a beautiful back drop for photos but also that the bridal party can make use of London’s most historic form of transport, the river, adding another grand element to the day by arriving by boat.  But the reason we are enamoured with Trinity House? The Trinity House River Rhapsody. Throughout summer and autumn, the crew of the Trinity House cutter, Trinity Tide are inviting newlyweds to join them the day after the wedding to be whisked down the Thames. The trip includes photography and a bottle of champagne and extra flourishes can be added, canapés, a violinist and even bagpipes to pipe the couple aboard. The perfect way to wind down from the wedding, before you set off on your honey moon.

116 Pall Mall

The grandeur of the imposing Grade I listed building is not only a stunning example of Georgian architecture, it is also one of our favourite wedding venues. Why? Because it can accommodate up to 400 guests, brilliant for large wedding parties and is home to many beautiful Regency portraits and magnificent features such as the staircase. But this isn’t just any magnificent staircase, it is accessorised with a 15- foot original handmade Regency chandelier, stunning, we know! For an opulent wedding think 116 Pall Mall.

Kent House Knightsbridge

Having recently opened its doors for civil weddings, it is safe to say that Kent House Knightsbridge is one of the capital’s hidden treasures. Why are we lusting after it? Because you get exclusive use of the Victorian townhouse, giving you all the glamour and elegance of a larger house, with the intimacy only a private townhouse can provide. But just because it is smaller doesn’t mean it is without grand touches, the decorative marbled floors and ornate walls, have us dreaming of a wedding here.

Grand Connaught Rooms

For a wedding that is extravagant and sumptuous look no further than The Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, because they are truly grand. There are 30 rooms to choose  from for various events, but for weddings we have our hearts set on the palatial Great Hall. Which can seat up to 550 guests or 1400 for a reception, meaning you can invite all those long lost aunts, friends and numerous cousins. It also boasts an 42 foot high ceiling featuring an Art Deco design and beautiful chandeliers,  could this be London’s most impressive banqueting hall?

Home House

Situated in Portman Square, Home House is another Georgian building to grace out wedding venues list, well the Regency era did produce some of the most beautiful architecture. But we are asking you to step through its chic interior to their pebbled garden, set within the court yard of the house it is a secret gem hidden in the centre of London, full of luschious greenery and flowers. But we are lusting over striking Raj tented area, which is perfect for dancing until late into the night under the stars.

So whether you are planning your wedding this year or just dreaming of that big day, forget Paris, forget Rome, London  may not have the Eiffel Towers, it may not have Venice gondlas, but it can’t be beaten when it comes to beautiful and definitely romantic wedding venues.
