Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson dancing in Die, My Love

Oscar-winning star Jennifer Lawrence is back with her latest film, Die My Love, in which she stars opposite Robert Pattinson. A psychological dark comedy, it follows a mother who is suffering postpartum depression and begins to behave erratically, leading to her marriage becoming jeopardised. The film is set to release this month – here’s all you need to know:

What is Die, My Love about?

Lawrence’s new film is quite different from her last, the broad comedy No Hard Feelings, which was released back in 2023. It’s directed by Lynne Ramsey, who previously helmed the dark dramas We Need To Talk About Kevin and You Were Never Really Here, and sees Lawrence play a mother, Grace, who is dealing with postpartum depression after giving birth. Grace lives in a remote farmhouse somewhere in the countryside of Montana, isolated except for the company of her husband Jackson (played by Pattinson). Their marriage seems strong to any outside observer, and they soon decide to have a child and become parents. But Jackson’s job means he’s often away on business trips, leaving Grace with the newborn, in a house with an odd, creepy atmosphere- the previous owner, a relative of Jackson’s, committed suicide, giving it an unnerving nature.

Motherhood, which is something often explored through psychological dramas or even outright horror films (like Lawrence’s previous film Mother!), begins to take its toll on Grace. It manifests itself in hallucinations and plays with her imagination, leading her further down a path of psychological crisis. Meanwhile, Jackson has secretly been having affairs while away on his trips, and with Grace’s issues, their marriage suddenly seems close to fully falling apart.

Who else stars, and is there a release date?

Sissy Spacek also stars in the film as Pam, Jackson’s mother, who, like Grace, is struggling with her mental health- she has to take care of her husband (played by Nick Nolte) with dementia. LaKeith Stanfield plays Karl, a man from the neighbourhood whom Grace becomes fixated on as her condition worsens. Die My Love premiered to good reviews from critics at the Cannes Festival, and will be released on 7th November in the UK.
