We hate to break it to you, but Christmas isn’t that far away. No we aren’t ready to think about it either yet, but with every company in London looking to host the biggest and best bash their employees have ever seen, it pays to get the Christmas party venue sorted early. Part of our Christmas party series, this one focuses on larger capacity venues – everything from palace to pool party, so whatever your requirement there is somewhere in London ready and waiting. None of these take your fancy? Keep an eye out for our upcoming Christmas coverage (sorry, it’s time…).
What: Stately Grandeur
Why: When it comes to magical settings for your Christmas party then The Long Library at Blenheim Palace is up there with the best. At just over 45m it’s one of the longest rooms in any British stately home. Its shelves are lined with 10,000 books and it’s also home to the magnificent Willis organ. It has black tie events written all over it (metaphorically of course) and with space for 500 guests at a reception or 300 guests for a dinner, it is ideal if you’re planning a Christmas party for the whole company. If your company is even bigger, then make the most of the parkland – their marquees can accommodate up t0 2000 people, so no having to cut down on the guest list. There are other smaller rooms for hire too, including the beautiful Orangery which can accommodate up to 150 guests.
Where: Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, OX20 1PP
What: Partying in Leicester Square
Why: So your company is rather big, the sort where no one wants to be that person who accidentally hits reply all to the whole company. And now you’ve been left in charge of finding the venue which can accommodate several hundred of you. Right in the centre of London however is Cafe de Paris, which from 21st November until 27th January 2017 is available seven days a week for exclusive hire and can fit up to 715 guests standing or 288 seated. They can design bespoke packages and menus, create themed drinks and they have a late licence until 3am – add in the 24 hour tube and your party is sorted.
Where: 3-4 Coventry Street, St James, London, W1D 6BL
What: Glamorous Pool Party
Why: When you think ‘Christmas party’ you probably don’t think pool party. Until now. In addition to private dining areas including the 70-seat Shooting Gallery, the gorgeous Kit Kemp-designed Haymarket Hotel has even more reason to host your party there with party packages for up to 220 guests in the pool area. Guests receive a glass of Champagne on arrival, drinks, canapés and bowl food as well as our favourite bit, a ‘midnight snack’. A 2am license, music and lighting system seal the deal.
Where: 1 Suffolk Place, London, SW1Y 4BP
What: Venue With a View
Why: What better sight at Christmas than the twinkly lights of London below from the fairy-lit setting of Sky Garden? The impressive double height space is sure to impress any client/colleague/big boss whilst the indoor restaurants and bar offer individual packages; Darwin Brasserie have a 4-course festive menu, Fenchurch will have a 5/6 course menu and private dining room, The Vinoly Room, inside Fenchurch is perfect for an intimate dinner to wow your guests; 10-16 people complete with in-house sommelier to suggest wine pairings.
Where: 20 Fenchurch Street, London
What: Victorian Warehouse
Why: With five interlinking spaces and two large secluded courtyards covering 17,500 sq ft, there is plenty of space at Loft Studios (a refurbished Victorian warehouse) for your party. Exposed brick walls, high ceilings and beams give it a Christmas Carol feel already but the blank space mean that you can tailor it to your party. And that’s not all, they’re also offering 10% off venue hire with an extra hour free up until 3am – just need to request a Bespoke Package when you book. Which is ideal, because that’s more money to spend on drinks and canapes.
Where: 77-81 Scrubs Lane, London NW10 6QU
What: Dinner and Dancing to Live Pianists
Why: Take your party up an octave by hosting it at Piano Works. Poor puns aside, it’s a great option for when all you want is a good old knees up but a standard bar is a little boring. Live music throughout the night is their ‘thing’ but a range of festive hire packages make it even more suitable for a Christmas party. Think cocktail receptions, 3-course dinners and Christmassy songs performed on request all night long. Exclusive hire of the space can accommodate up to 400 people with the function room able to seat 40 comfortably for dinner. A range of hire packages are available so see their website for full details.
Where: 113-117 Farringdon Road, corner of Ray St Farringdon, London, EC1R 3BX
What: Winter Wonderland and Festive Dining
Why: Mondrian will add a stylish touch to proceedings with the transformation of their Studios into Winter Wonderlands, complete with snow globe centrepieces, woodland trees and decorative arches – who doesn’t love a Winter Wonderland? Each of the 4 Studios has a different capacity (from 50-90) and multiple can be hired as well as the Studio Foyer, Rumpus Room, Dandelyan bar and River View Apartment for a banquet or drinks reception. Pick your festive menu from the extended list – everything from roast Norfolk turkey breast to chestnut and wild mushroom lasagne and chocolate lava cake. DJs and other event suppliers available on request.
Where: Mondrian London at Sea Containers, 20 Upper Ground, London, SE1 9PD
What: Dinner and Dancing 100ft Above Kensington High Street
Why: So you need to find somewhere that can hold 500 people? No problem, we know just the place where you can host 500 people, 100 ft above Kensington High Street: The Roof Gardens. Choose between a set menu or a buffet dinner complete with crackers, before dancing the night away to the DJ. Or if you’re a smaller company, but are still looking for a big atmosphere then you can join in with one of their shared Christmas parties.
Where: 6th and 7th Floor, 99 Kensington High Street, Kensington, London, W8 5SA
What: Christmas Setting
Why: Tucked away in the historic, cobbled Lancashire Court which you can imagine in a scene of Christmas Carol is Mews of Mayfair. Set across four floors, Mews of Mayfair is the perfect Christmas setting, have a private dinner in the Chef’s dining room, get everyone together for drinks in the cocktail or lounge bar or host a canape party for up to 150. When you head back into the cold night air out of the courtyard you’ll definitely be in the Christmas spirit.
Where: 10 Lancashire Court New Bond Street W1S 1EY
What: Christmas in Central London
Why: Conveniently located near Oxford Street and Covent Garden, The Bloomsbury is ideal for a big crowd. With areas available to hire for up to 280 guests, choose your ideal package, be it 3 hours of drinks (Prosecco, house wine, espresso martinis and spirits) or a festive dinner in the Queen Mary Hall, George V Hall, Seamus Heaney Library or The Chapel and you’re good to go. The 3-course dinner for a minimum of 180 guests includes chestnut soup and venison terrine for starters followed by traditional slow roast bronze turkey with all the trimmings and pan fried salmon fillet with spinach puree. Oh, and Christmas pudding. The hotel’s Dalloway Terrace is ideal for more intimate dinners and a festive afternoon tea if you are in need of a smaller space.
Where: 16-22 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3NN
What: Christmas Cabaret
Why: The Christmas pantomime, the obligatory part of any child’s Christmas and whilst now (thankfully) we are beyond shouting ‘he’s behind you’, we aren’t over going to a show at Christmas. If that show is a spectacular Christmas cabaret performance with aerial artists, elves and Scrooge, in a glittering winter wonderland with luxury dining and cocktails then all the better. And where can you find this? At the London Cabaret Club, in the heart of Bloomsbury. With space from 10 to 200 guests, they offer packages which include the show and drinks, through to drinks receptions, gourmet five course menus and VIP seating!
Where: The London Cabaret Club The Bloomsbury Ballroom, Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square WC1B 4DA
What: Limited Dates Left
Why: Built in 1904, Bush Hall has certainly taken on many guises: a dance hall, a WWII soup kitchen, bingo hall, rehearsal space for the likes of The Who, a snooker and social club and now a venue space for your Christmas party. It has space for up to 400 guests, making it ideal for large parties – but as you can imagine a venue with this much character is in high demand, there are only limited dates left – so get booking. If your date is taken then they are also hosting private parties in the Bush Hall Dining Rooms too.
Where: 310 Uxbridge Road, London, W12 7LJ
What: Medieval Shows
Why: Winter is coming… head into the dark side, for an evening of archaic culture, an evening of jugglers, contortionists, a five course banquet, aerial acrobatics and a full Medieval show all set in within the 2oo year old Ivory Vaults. Organising a party for up to 450 people is pretty hectic, so the Ivory Vaults are giving you a helping hand as the packages are all inclusive with drinks, the show and food, so you don’t need to fiddle around with costs.
Where: Ivory Vaults Ivory House St Katharine Docks London, E1W 1BP
What: Private Alpine Lodge
Why: The cost of taking your whole office to an Alpine lodge, it’s going to be pricey – we’re guessing it’s not going to be in your party budget. So, what can you do instead? You can head to the 39th floor of The Gherkin which is transforming into a Alpine ski lodge, complete with ski lodge bar, mulled wine, hot toddies, bratwurst hot dogs and blankets for you to snuggle under, whilst sitting around the fire.
Where: 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin), Saint Mary Axe, London
What: Christmas Cocktails
Why: Want Christmas cocktails? Then Dirty Martini is your go to, with five Christmas cocktails including a Mince Chai, quine and walnut old fashioned and Dirty Grinch. They have seven venues across London and can host parties from ten guests (where we recommend their Christmas cocktail masterclass) through to 400 guests where you can hire the venue privately and choose from three festive menus.
Where: 10c Hanover Square, London, W1S 1JH
What: Christmas Tunes
Why: If you’re going to make a fool of yourself in the office then chances are it’s going to be at the Christmas party, it might involve you trying to do your best Mariah Carey impression – trust us another cocktail won’t make your singing any better. If karaoke is your thing, then you’ll want Lucky Voice. With venues over in Soho and Islington, you can have parties for up to 260 guests – amongst all of you, there’ll be one who’ll be able to hit those high notes at least…
Where: 173-174 Upper Street, London N1 1RG
Why: If it’s luxury and opulence you want rather than reindeer antlers and elf ears then let us introduce you to Club Chinois. The decadent club brings back old-school glamour, with dinner and dancing. There are three areas to choose from: The Opera, Salon Rouge and Wave Bar and in total they can host 116 seating and 250 standing.
Where: Park Chinois, 17 Berkeley Street, Mayfair, London W1J 8EA
What: Knightsbridge elegance
Why: If you’re aiming to make this year’s Christmas party a classy affair (perhaps rather more than last year’s…) Jumeirah Carlton Tower is your answer. The Art Deco-inspired Ballroom is the epitome of elegance with Viennese crystal chandeliers and ornate wall lights, and can offer seated dinners for up to 400 guests, or cocktail receptions for up to 700 guests. Alternatively, the Garden Rooms can host a (marginally) more intimate gathering, with space for up to 350 people for a reception, underneath the sparkling fairy lights that adorn the glass canopy.
