If you don’t mind your romantic dramas having a sci-fi twist, then you should definitely be excited for Apple TV+’s new film All of You, which is available to watch now. Starring Imogen Poots (The Father) and Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), it tells the life story of two college friends, who despite having uncontested feelings for each other remain apart- but each can’t help wondering if they’ve made a serious mistake. Here’s all you need to know:

What is All of You about?

All of You centres around a central premise of many romantic dramas before it: the idea of two best friends who aren’t sure if there’s more to their relationship, and the missed opportunities that come with it. However, Simon (Goldstein) and Laura (Poots) live in a world where having a literal soulmate is really a thing: a test has been invented that allows you to accurately find “the one”. Simon has known Laura since university days, and has long felt feelings of love for her, something she doesn’t apparently return. The definitely sci-fi sounding “Soul Connex” is the flawless test that predicts who you should be with it, and Laura takes it and begins a life with Lukas (Steven Cree).

Years later, Simon still has those same deep-down feelings and longs for Laura to realise they should be together instead, despite her being married with children. But suddenly, she, too, wonders what might have been, and the two reconnect and begin an affair. Obviously, the ethics of cheating is something looming over them- Lukas was apparently scientifically meant to be Laura’s life partner. But can love and chemistry truly be boiled down to a science? Is it possible that Simon was meant to be his soulmate, just not at that earlier point in time? All of You asks these philosophical questions and more as it spans Simon and Laura’s repeatedly crossing lives and relationship.

Is there a trailer, and who else stars?

The official trailer for the film gives a look at the characters and world they live in: Laura is drawn to the fact that millions of people have already taken the soulmate test, but Simon feels strongly that it ruins what makes love special. But there’s clearly longing in both of their eyes, despite the fact they’re both conflicted: “You can’t pretend it didn’t mean something”, says Simon, and “I don’t think you understand how complicated it is for me”, says Laura. All of You also stars Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) and Zawe Ashton (The Marvels), and is co-written by Brett Goldstein himself. It’s now available to watch on Apple TV.
