Why You Need To Watch Netflix’s Fool Me Once

11th January 2024 | By Rufus Punt

2024 has got plenty of anticipated shows like Bridgerton and House of the Dragon on the way to our screens, but one that has already released has been quietly gaining a following on social media. Netflix rang in the New Year with the release of Fool Me Once, an eight part series led by Brassic and Our Girl star Michelle Keegan, and it’s already shot to Number 1 on the UK most watched chart. If you’ve not seen this mystery thriller for yourself yet, then here’s all you need to know.

What is Fool Me Once about and why is it worth a watch?

Fool Me Once

Our central character is Maya Stern (Keegan), an ex-soldier who’s given the shock of her life when she takes a look at a nanny cam of her house, and sees her dead husband Joe, apparently living and breathing. Maya is a mother who’s deep in grief following the murder of Joe (played by Obsession’s Richard Armitage), shattering her life. But only a fortnight after his funeral, the sudden reappearance of Joe sends her into a web of secrets and conspiracy.

‌Was her husband actually murdered and truly dead, or is something else going on? And that’s not all: her niece and nephew Abby (Dänya Griver) and Daniel (Daniel Burt) have also recently suffered a loss of their own after their mother was murdered too. Are the two cases linked? Netflix gives no hints, so you’ll have to watch for yourself to find out. If you’re looking for a new twisting, turning thriller that’s a quick watch at only eight episodes, then Fool Me Once is definitely for you. Michelle Keegan is definitely a highlight as Maya as she searches for answers, and you won’t be able to stop yourself from pressing the “Next Episode” button as the credits roll each time.

Who else stars?

Alongside Keegan as Maya and Armitage as Joe, Fool Me Once also stars Adeel Akhtar (Utopia) as DS Sami Kierce, an investigator of the murder cases, Natalie Anderson (Hollyoaks) as Claire Walker, Jade Anouka (His Dark Materials) as Nicole Butler, Joe Armstrong (The Hollow Crown), Dino Fetscher (Years and Years) and Ab Fab’s Dame Joanna Lumley as Judith Burkett, Joe’s mother.‌

Where can I watch?

On Netflix of course- the show released back on 1st January, with all episodes ready to binge through, though it’s been confirmed Fool Me Once is a miniseries, so don’t expect a season 2 in the future. You can watch the trailer below.
