Kristen Wiig & Laura Dern Star In The Hilarious New Comedy, Palm Royale

Apple TV+ has a big year ahead in TV with shows like Criminal Record and Masters of the Air and a new comedy that has the promise of being a hit. Palm Royale stars Kristen Wiig in late in 1960s Florida, as a woman trying to fit herself into high society of the state’s idyllic Palm Beach, with all the pitfalls and comedic clashes that brings.
Palm Royale will be arriving on the streamer in March and boasts an impressively eclectic supporting cast, including Big Little Lies star Laura Dern, I, Tonya’s Allison Janney, and singer Ricky Martin. Intrigued? Then read on for the all details we know so far.
What is Palm Royale about?

Florida, 1969- it’s a year of big changes, with the moon landing, Woodstock, Vietnam protests and the beginning of the Nixon presidency. But for Maxine Simmons (Wiig), the most important thing in life is becoming accepted into the upper circles of society in Palm Beach, a summery island in the Sunshine State. Palm Royale is billed by Apple as “a true underdog story”, as it follows Maxine wanting to cement herself as a ‘have’ rather than a ‘have not’, even if it takes her sacrificing parts of her own personality.
It’s based on the novel Mr. & Mrs American Pie by writer Juliet McDaniel, and you can expect a witty, biting satire of not just 60s America, but rich cliques in general.
What else do we know?
Palm Royale has drawn some comparisons to The White Lotus (which is slated to return with season 3 later this year with its sunny setting and making fun of the rich and the vapid). Whether it’ll be as good as the HBO series is yet to be seen- but the cast certainly looks like it’ll rival it for stars. Dern will be playing one of the main roles, Linda, presumably one of those in Palm Beach’s “high society”, alongside Janney as Evelyn, and Martin as Robert. Leslie Bibb (God’s Favourite Idiot), Josh Lucas (Yellowstone) and Carol Burnett (Better Call Saul) also star. Guest appearances will include model Kaia Gerber, Newhart star Julia Duffy, and Laura Dern’s father Bruce Dern.
So far Apple TV has yet to release a full-length trailer, but shots are featured in their “Coming Soon” sizzle reel from last year, which you can watch below. Palm Royale will drop on Apple TV+ on 20th March.
