The New Harry Potter Trailer Is Officially Here
It is official, Harry Potter will be returning to our screens this Christmas, and we couldn’t be more excited. The news follows HBO’s release of a teaser trailer on Wednesday, which gave audiences a small taste of what to expect from this new take on J. K. Rowling’s wizarding world. Here is everything you need to know:
What we know so far
The series will be a fully-fledged live-action adaptation of the beloved classic, reimagined for the first time for the small screen. Similar to the movie franchise, the show’s first season is entitled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and over the span of eight episodes, it will retell Rowling’s first novel. The show is being brought to life under the directorial vision of Mark Mylod (The Menu), while J.K. Rowling is also listed as an executive producer. Audiences can also expect a thrilling score by Hans Zimmer.
In terms of the cast, John Lithgow will be stepping into the role of Albus Dumbledore, while the likes of Warwick Davis, Katherine Parkinson (Rivals) and Janet McTeer (Me Before You) are all set to make appearances. After a lengthy casting process, Harry, Ron and Hermione have also officially been announced, with Dominic McLaughlin playing the world-famous wizard, and Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton set to play his comrades.
What the trailer reveals
The trailer opens with a collection of shots that feel reminiscent of the franchise’s first film. We see Harry’s bedroom in the cupboard under the stairs, him facing bullies at school, and Petunia Dursley insisting that “he is nothing special.” It then cuts to Harry receiving his letter from Hogwarts, meeting Hagrid, played by Nick Frost, and of course, embarking on his journey to the wizarding world. Hinting at several iconic moments from the books and films, we are also given a first look at the reimagined sorting hat, halls of Hogwarts, Quidditch matches, and characters including Malfoy, Professor McGonagall, and Garrick Olivander.
