5 New Afternoon Teas With An International Twist
You can’t get much more quintessentially British than afternoon tea but, as much as we love it, sometimes we crave respite from dainty cakes and cucumber sandwiches. We don’t want a break completely though, which just as well the new spate of teas-with-an-international-twist have landed so you can indulge in scones with sweet labneh and homemade barberry, cranberry and rose jam, Atlantic prawn skagen on seeded rye, and kukicha with cherry blossom tea.

Afternoon Tea In The Levant
There are several reasons we’re a fan of Ceru’s afternoon tea; firstly it’s served every day, so you can get your scone fix Monday through to Sunday. Secondly, they don’t just have your usual sandwiches, they’re have Turkish brioche-style bread filled with the likes of spice-roasted lamb shoulder with fresh mint, pistachio and pomegranate; Ceru coronation chicken with sumac and, our favourite, creamed feta with lemon and pickled cucumber. Scones aren’t just served with strawberry jam, they come with sweet labneh and homemade barberry, cranberry and rose jam. Finish with a rose-scented lemon meringue tartlet – which was the winner for us, carrot and cardamom cupcakes and sweet, sticky Turkish pistachio baklava. It might not be as a big as a traditional afternoon tea, it’s lighter than that, so it’s ideal if you don’t want to feel too sluggish, it’s certainly more adventurous than a traditional tea though.

Nordic Afternoon Tea
Another new Nordic afternoon tea, is Aster’s tea which includes shredded duck and pickles on sourdough; Atlantic prawn skagen on seeded rye and sherry herring with egg butter on rye – it’s all about the rye. Follow up with cardamom knots, lingonberry vanilla macaroons and cake Runeberg with blood orange jam.
