If there’s one job my group chat has designated me, it’s ‘style advisor’. My friends come to me with all of their style dilemmas, sourcing issues and advice – so, I wanted to extend that to you guys. Each month, I will be reading and advising on a Style Dilemma sent in by a reader.

The dilemma

Hi Simran, I have a girls’ night coming up this weekend – I am struggling to know what to wear that feels flirty and fun in this transitioning + unpredictable weather. Help please?!

The solution

Flirty and fun are two of my favourite words, and a great starting point because this tells me how you want to feel on your night out. Which I relate to! Girls’ night is the time to be fun, if there ever was one. As the seasons change and we have some warm days and cooler nights, there is one formula I tend to rely on that always looks great and translates across multiple wardrobes.

My go-to outfit? Mini dress + knee-high boots + trench coat.

These are quintessential items every person has a variation of in their wardrobe, and allow you to get the fun, flirty look whilst also staying trute to your personal style preferences.

Shop the look

The shoulder detail on this makes it interesting, whilst the length adds some modesty and warmth on your night out. You can dress it down during the week and it’s a timeless piece that will see you through multiple years and seasons. When I first tried this one on it reminded me of my Burberry trench – do with that information what you wish …
I think it’s easy to get stuck in the loop of saving your ‘nice’ clothes for holidays, or a special occasion – but I am a firm believer in wearing your clothes and making them work across seasons. This dress (or anything from Rat and Boa tbh) makes me feel so good and similarly, can be dressed up or down. A heel when its warmer, a boot when its cooler and over some jeans during the week. Clothes this good shouldn’t spend their life waiting in your wardrobe!
A black leather knee-high boot is a girls’ night staple, but the kitten heel gives it a cooler, more effortless edge. You still get the polish and leg-lengthening effect of a heel, without committing to something you’ll regret three hours (and several bars) later. Sleek, sexy and endlessly versatile, they work well with nearly everything in your wardrobe. Consider them the sweet spot between dressed-up and actually being able to dance.
